Advantages: leaves lips really soft, lasts ages
Disadvantages: has no smell, expensive
I bought this as a result of a Clinique offer where if you spend over £30 you get a free gift set. I'd actually gone out to buy the dramatically different moisturiser but ended up buying this as well to make it over £30. It was £8.50 for 7ml from Debenhams and I thought it seemed like a good idea for the winter.
*Packaging*
It comes in a really cute little bottle that is like a mini version of the other Clinique products. It is the usual mint green colour which I'm not a massive fan of but it does look simple and clean, like the products. It has a big silver C and 'Clinique' written at the top then 'superbalm lip treatment' written in dark green underneath. It has a screw off top and you squeeze the bottle to make it come out. It is a standard plastic sloped applicator with a hole in where the balm comes out and you can use the applicator to rub it in.
*My Experience*
It claims on the Clinique official site that it is a "deeply hydrating balm that helps to repair distressed lips and replenishes moisture loss." And I think it really lives up to this claim.
The balm is a really thick consistency with a Vaseline-like colour. Except when you apply it, it feels thicker than Vaseline and more like a lip gloss. It leaves your lips looking really shiny and would definitely substitute a clear lip gloss.
It doesn't have any smell at all, which is a shame as I usually prefer lip products to have a nice smell. However Clinique pride themselves in making products that are sensitive and usually therefore fragrance free, so it makes sense.
I usually only use this as a lip balm at night usually before I go to bed, then I can leave it doing its work while I'm asleep. But I prefer to use lighter lip products during the day, however it would be suitable for carrying around and using throughout the day if that was what you wanted to do. I find you don't have to apply a lot as it goes a long way, and if you do put too much on it ends up feeling a bit heavy. I wouldn't describe the balm as sticky, like Lancôme juicy tubes can be, but if you have your hair down and it blows onto your face it probably would stick which is annoying!
The best thing about it though is how well it works. It instantly soothes your lips and makes them feel soft even if they had become quite dry. And I found after using it for a few days I noticed already that my lips felt more moisturised and I didn't need to apply lip balm as often during the day to stop them becoming dry.
The bottle has lasted me quite a while, I got it a couple of months ago and have been using it every night and still have a bit left.
*Overall Opinion*
I think this is a really nice product and have been really pleased with it. I'm aware there are similar cheaper products like it, such as the Nivea care lip balms but you can definitely tell the difference in quality with this. I admit when it runs out I probably wont bother buying it again because of the cost, unless there's another offer on that tempts me. But it does make a nice treat or present for someone else. I would also advise it for anyone suffering from severely dried out lips as I think it would tackle that better than cheaper ones.
