Advantages: Good colour, coverage, very light and natural, great price

Disadvantages: None

I usually use Benefit Lemon Aid colour correcting eyelid primer, but since I was begining to run very low, I thought I'd pop into town to buy a replacement. The one I was using was bought on a trip to New York so I did get it quite cheap, if I remember it was about $20 which worked out around £12.00. When I saw the current retail price of £16.50 I decided I didn't want to pay that and went to have a look around for a similar product.

Clinique had an offer on, buy two products and get a cute summery make up bag filled with trial sizes of some of their top selling products. I asked the assistant what was available in the way of a product which would disguise redness on the eyelid, provide a base for eyeshadow but still be suitable for use alone just 'wake up' the eyelid area.

The assistant directed me to Touch Base for Eyes in canvas colour way. Touch Base is available in two shades, canvas, which is a medium beige shade more suitable for highly pigmented skin, or a lighter shade, canvas light which is very pale, too pale for my skin colour. This retails at a bargain £10.00 for a 1g compact.

What this product is designed to do is provide a base for applying eyeshadow to make it last longer, and not settle in to creases. It can also be used alone as a 'skin' colour eyeshadow. It has a lovely light creamy texture, and is very gentle so should be suitable for sensitve skin, it is also ophthalmologist tested.

It comes packaged in typical Clinique style, small green marbled compact, with a small mirror inside the lid. There is no applicator provided with this product, I just use my ring finger to apply gently to my lid area.

What I like about this product is that it is so gently and easy to apply, there is no need for heavy dragging of the skin because the cream is so light it literally just glides on with the gentlest of touches. Very unlike the Benefit one which is very heavy and thick, I didn't realise how hard it was to apply compared to the Clinique Touch Base.

It is slightly irridescent, but not glittery. It gives a nice 'lift' and freshness to the eyelid. It goes on really well, looks very natural, and hides my redness and discolouration very easily. It can be built up in layers to provide the right level of coverage without looking heavy or cakey.

When I have used eyeshadow over the top, it provides a great canvas on which to apply the product, and get a true colour, rather than a distorted colour due to any discolouration. It makes my eyeshadow last longer also, no settling into creases or fine lines, and it looks just as good at the end of the day as when I first applied in the morning.

It is amazing on its own with just a slick of eyeliner and mascara, it gives a nice fresh wide awake look to the eye area, and an overall natural look to my make up. I love this look for a weekend or day off, rather than having no make up which I hate, and can't be bothered with a full face. Just literally smooth this over lids and you are good to go.

Would I recommend this product? Yes definitely, I really don't know how I lived without this for so long. I really liked the Benefit Lemon Aid, but now after using Clinique Touch Base for Eyes, the two are leagues apart. Clinique has made a real winner!

This is a great multi-tasking product, which will be a staple in my make up bag from now on.

Summary: A great product from Clinique
