Advantages: Great selection, perfect mascara.
Disadvantages: Seems expensive- but you get your money's worth! Powder too pale.
I'd been looking for an all- in- one set of make up for quite a while when, a few months ago I came across Clinique's Travel Exclusive Make- up Palette online. It contained everything a girl could want on the go including: Superpowder Double Face Powder; Soft Pressed Powder Blusher; Eye Shadow Quad; High Impact Mascara; two shades of Long Last Lipstick; two shades of Colour Surge Lipstick; and a Moisture Sheer Lipstick. There's also a blusher brush, powder pad and lipstick/ eye shadow applicators. I paid £29.99 online for this, it's a little harder to get hold of now but it is still available.
The palette itself is a mirrored effect, rectangular box approximately 12cm by 7cm and about 2cm deep, so as you can tell it's pretty small, perfect for carrying around where ever you go. The lid easily clips open (but not so easy that it opens up in your bag) to reveal a mirror covering the whole of the underneath of the lid, it's a good size although it is sometimes a little difficult to juggle holding the palette close enough to your face whilst accurately applying make- up. The blusher and eye shadow does get onto the mirror, and although it's easy to wipe off my mirror has never been perfectly clean, you have to really scrub hard to get rid of all the marks. The 2 blushers and 4 eye shadows are on the top underneath the mirror, with the lipsticks being pulled out, in effect from a little draw underneath. As the lipsticks can be a little sticky it avoids any of the powders mixing into the compartment underneath.
One of the main reasons I bought Clinique's Palette was because it had such a good variation of shades of blushers, eye shadows and lipsticks all of which are everyday shades I would use.
Firstly, the Superpowder is in Matt Beige and all imperfections are well covered up helped by the powder pad included in the palette, it's perfect for my skin colour however I am a little pale. Since the weather perked up for a few days a couple of weeks ago and I got a bit of a tan I can't use the powder as it's far too light to use. The blusher in shade mocha pink is far too bright to use with the pale powder but it's a nice shade of pinky brown and when used with a darker foundation looks really nice.
The eye shadow quad is made up of two browns and two pinks and the set of shades is called Spicy. One of the pinks is very pale, and doesn't really do anything, it's a nice shade to use in the day though as it does have a pink tinge to it. The darker pink is more of a blusher colour than being suitable for eye shadow, and I've never used this one. The lighter of the two browns has a nice pink tinge to it and this is my favourite of the shadows, it's perfect for going out for something to eat, where the darkest shade is perfect for nights out and is also good for lining the eyes.
I often find it difficult to find a shade of lipstick in sets like these, however Clinique have done a really good job in this little kit. There are two long lasting lipsticks in Creamy/ Blushing Nude Soft Shine, both shades are lovely, and this along with their long lasting qualities makes them perfect for a night out. The two colour surge lipsticks are great when you need a burst of colour and come in wild berry and extreme pink. My favourite lipsticks however is the silver pink moisture sheer lipstick, it's quite neutral making it perfect for use in the day and keeps your lips nice and soft. I often apply the lipsticks using my finger, as the brush provided I find it too small as I have quite full lips.
The best bit about my palette is definitely the High Impact Mascara, it gives my lashes lots of volume as well as separating them well, and the dark black shade gives my eyes a lovely defined look. Although the mascara is a small size to fit in the palette it's lasted me a good three months of near frequent use and is showing no signs of running out. Finally decent mascara!
Overall, I feel that Clinique's Travel Exclusive Make- up Palette is a good buy, it's not cheap and there are a couple of things which I don't use but compared to other sets like this I do use a lot more than I usually would. For what you get inside it's definitely for the £30 price tag as you really get the use, I've found the perfect mascara in this set and for that alone you can pay up to £15 easily. The palette is the perfect size for carrying around wherever you go, a must have for any girl's travels.
Summary: 4/5 overall, a very good buy.
