Brodvejus - Vilnius (Lithuania)
by dangaroo
Brodvejus is a club in Vilnius, Lithuania that has struck gold with the stag do crowd. I'm only reviewing it because I used to live round the corner from it. From the outside Brodvejus kind of looks like the setting of Cheers but inside it's a little more colourful and a bit more spacious than first imagined.
Brodvejus is a ... notorious bimbo hangout and girls will come from as far as Siberia to meet their future rich boyfriends or just spend the week their looking for one whilst getting drinks brought for them or there are the ones who just live off free drinks permanently! Either way it's a simple equation of gormless ugly foreigners & blondes with a lot of make up on looking for an easy life, several years ago it used to be rather 1 on 1 but now due to the influx of stag do's from cheap flights and Italians in search of their blonde princess, it's more commonly 5 italian guys standing around one girl whilst the trusty Brits just fall ontop of them all due to being completely legless.
The majority of Lithuanians cringe at the mere name of the club and it's generally considered to be a blemish on what is a very nice city. The meat market atmosphere makes it a winner still with foreigners who get chances to use their lines like "Do you come here often?" unaware that the girl in question has most probably received the same question and the following night of free drinks just about every weekend this millenium.
Beer is cheap and the music is really quite fun and it is a tad better on mid-week nights when it's a little less crowded. Personally, I find it a horrendous place but I've heard it praised by numerous visitors and it definitely goes down well with the staggering stag-do's. It also does a useful job of collecting all the people you'd prefer not to meet in the one bar which leaves the other bars and clubs fairly fun!
It's open from midday to until about 5 on Weds,Thurs,Friday and Saturday and often has live music. It stays open until 3 and 4 respectively on Monday and Tuesday and is closed (as far as I know) on Sunday.
The address is Vokieciu str. 4 or from the other side Mesiniu str 4.

Club Rock Warsaw (Poland)
by dangaroo
Club Rock, formerly known as Bikers is a rock club (you never would have guessed!) in Warsaw. Some years ago it had a very nice atmosphere and a lot of regulars but the club changed hands and promoted it much much more, including various television documentaries and so on and now it has bizarre clientelle who are generally going there on ... one-off occasion and rigorous security checks (we are talking 2 bouncers, 1 person for coats, 1 to stamp your hand, 1 to check your hand, 1 to pat you down and 1 bloke with a torch to check what is inside bags) which is completely ridiculous considering nothing has ever happened prior to the security being introduced! The new set of bouncers have been getting a bit too heavy handed and the majority of regulars have stopped going there because of this.
Even the music has changed, famed for it's late 60's/70's rock, metal and Polish punk and thus attracting a steady following of fans, it's now resorted to playing nu-metal and no hopers like Lenny Kravitz.
So what's good about it?
Well.. it's a cool pub/club within the grounds of a fort, the pub is built into the hillside in a tube shape, the building was formerly barracks. Bikes and bike memorobillia are across the walls and their are plenty of seats, a dance floor and often quite reasonable bands playing live.
Drinks are cheap, food is also available (pizza, nachos and snacks) and good. They now have an entrance fee, so it's 5zl entrance and then 6zl for a beer. The club/pub also has darts and table football. The place is open until about 5am most nights.
All in all, I think the time for visiting this place has passed and I would advise the young clubber/party tourist to go elsewhere (such as Rock n Roll pub or Radio Luksemburg). If you would still like to go - it's on Ul. Raclawicka 66 and the nearest tram or bus stop is Paszkowskiego. There is an awesome kebab shop that is open 24hrs opposite it. Read the complete review |
