Advantages: Cheap, fun and decent music

Disadvantages: Large groups of people can change the atmosphere

Carpe Diem II, was set up on the back of the success of Carpe Diem I. I've never been to Carpe Diem I, at least not that I'm aware of. They are in similar locations but off different streets from the main square in Krakow. Carpe Diem II tends to be a buzzing place with a lot of drunkenness, a packed dance floor with hidden corners of candlelit cosy seating.

The music is fun with a focus on classic rock covering everything from hard rock to Elton John and on punk, ska or rock songs particularly popular with Poles (Kult, Pidzama Porno). This bar is cheap, particularly early in the week when they offer beer for an amazing 3zl (65p) a pint.. with no entrance fee, this is safely one of the cheapest beers the city has to offer.

Their open door policy which lets just about anyone in, has over the years proved successful and unsuccessful, on one hand you can meet all types there but on the other the night can be marred by bad behaviour from certain foreign groups of lads, notoriously Finns and Brits, stag do's and rugby teams. Until that moment happens though, it is well worth a visit and with beers at that price, you can consider getting drunk there a cost-cutting activity.

Summary: A cheap, fun night out
