Advantages: Its huge, music is good if you listen to hardcore Trance

Disadvantages: Price of admission, price of water and the show

Manumission is one of the largest clubs of its kind, not just in Ibiza, but the whole world. Having the capacity in holding 10,000 clubbers, its no wonder that Manumission@ Privilege is in the Guinness book of records.

The club itself has 5 levels, well rooms I would prefer to call them. The main hall, is split into two halves. At the top you have the show, which this year is "The Good ship Manumission" and down the bottom end you also have a platform which has performers coming out and parading their stuff on.. The two DJ boxes are right in the middle and its amazing how the two different types of music don't mix with each other, but can be heard clearly. Most of the music played within this massive hall is "Trance" anthems with a little dance thrown in between.

There is a "garage" room just off the main hall. I will probably keep calling the main room a hall, its that huge. This garage room plays garage music surprisingly but after 4 am tends to go to "chill out" music. This is great if you can find a seat and chill out to some great tracks. I personally find "chill out" music a little hard to dance to but hey, the dance floor was still packed.

On the second level there is another DJ set up which again plays mainly hard trance or garage. With 4 music sets going within the same building you might think that it would just sound like a whole lot of noise. Far from it. The music quality is sensational and you can walk from one set to another and hear clearly what's being played.

The most spectacular place within Manumission and can be seen from the main Ibiza- San Antonio road is the Dome. The Dome is at the top of Manumission is completely outside. It almost looks like a giant climbing frame resurrected at the top on the building. It has its own bar, and steps down to a beautiful outside gardens.

Well if that doesn't give you an idea of how vast this nightcl
ub is then what can I say? If you go with friends be prepared to make arrangements to have a meeting point somewhere at a specified time as believe me, you might get separated. It wont be out of whether you are too drunk, because if you look too drunk they wont let you in. Talking of drinking, what's the most expensive bottle of water you have ever brought? 1.50? 2.00? Well if you plan to have drinks at this night club take enough money with you. A small bottle of water will cost you a staggering 4 pound (1000 ptas ) and if you wish to drink anything alcoholic then the cheapest will cost you 6 pound ( 1500 ptas). Know wonder when I looked about 80% of the clubbers had water and hardly anyone looked drunk. Even if you did have the money to get drunk in there, playing 28 pound( 7000 ptas) each entry fee is enough to put you off getting too drunk in fear to being kicked out!

Manumission opens at midnight every night and closes at 7 am the following morning. Mondays is dedicated to the shows that they put on, this year it being "Good Ship Manumission". This was the one we went to see and both my hubby and myself were very disappointed. The set itself was pretty spectacular. On the main stage they had the ship with doors and the dance floor which extended out ended as the ships end. Underneath there is a small swimming pool and that the end was the DJ box. Every 30 minutes you had dancers on the podiums (3) which where dressed in rather skimpy sailor outfits. Every hour or so you had a "mini" shows on the stage, lasting about 5- 10 minutes a piece. The variety of performers where OK, but it just seemed really loosely strung together. You have a few sailors wondering around the stage, doing nothing. A few ladies doing the trapeze acts. Few more sailors walking about doing nothing. The only thing I found intriguing was the fight between the sailors and the pirates. This was quite funny in places, with the sailors eventually overthrowing
the pirates and reclaiming the ship. There was also a BMX stunt show too. What BMX's that had to do with a ship voyage I have no idea. After getting bored with the show and getting annoyed in the fact that it seemed people couldn't dance and watch at the same time, we moved into the Dome.

If you can imagine how warm the club is with over say 5,000 clubbers, half the capacity of the club, then you will know why Manumission has a outdoor part. Incidentally there are 3 bars in the main hall, 2 of which are outside under canopies, but are just as stifling hot as you don't seem to get any air. With the Dome you can cool down, chill out and have a walk in their gardens. That's of course if they are open. It seems that its standard in these bigger club in Ibiza that they only open the club section by section. In other words they open up each section as and then they feel that the main hall is getting really busy. This annoyed me as when we got to Manumission, I wanted to have a really good look about in each section before it got really busy. No luck. Infact we didn't know it was standard until we had visited the other clubs during the week.

I must admit that my hubby and I wanted to go to Manumission because of this famous live sex show that they introduced a few years ago. No, we are not perverts, well I speak for myself anyway! We had heard on Ibiza Uncovered a few years ago that it was superb, tasteful and " renaissance". Well to be honest, we were so disappointed with the first part of the show, the music, that we left at 5 am. The sex show starts at around 5.30 am. Surprisingly enough, people were still queuing up to come in as we left. I heard from a friend who I had met on holiday who also was at Manumission that the sex show was nothing more than " you average porn movie. just with better models and better music " Personally I cant comment, but they are her words, so I thought I would pass them on.
r>I think I would of like to gone to Manumission @ Privilege when they first renovated it 4 years ago. It was fresh, new and something different. Now I think that the two brothers who took Manumission to these new dizzy heights are in danger of drowning in their own success. If you ever go to Ibiza, go to Manumission if you want to see a show. Don't go if you want to dance to your favourate house, dance, chill out tracks. You wont hear them. In fact I think I only heard 2 tracks in which I knew. I know the music industry changes like someone passing wind over there, but I do like to know what I'm dancing to. Its a spectacular place but the music, the show and the prices for drinks are such a let down. Give me a real sailor to rescue me if I go over board. ...the ones at Manumission cant save themselves.

When I went to Privilidge it rained and the roof leaked so at least it wasn't too hot. Nevermind.
Good op.

Not a big fan of clubs as a whole although small pokey ones can be good fun. Manumission isnt really my sort of place so I think I'd end up feeling a bit like you, let down! Steve
