Advantages: Plenty of choice

Disadvantages: Some very expensive

There's a great choice of night clubs to go to in Barcelona which will keep you going until the early hours of the next morning! At the bottom of Las Ramblas at the sea there is quite a large shopping centre/night club complex called the Maremagnum which you walk out along a jetty to get to. At night time the nightclubs here come alive from about 10pm onwards, though they don't really start filling up until about midnight. There is a good selection to chose from but they are all much of the same, playing the same sorts of cheesy music and it's the same crowds moving on from one to the next. There's also a salsa type club upstairs which is good fun. These nightclubs are all free entrance and are the main ones where most of the tourists go. The drinks can be fairly expensive too although they do have promotions girls outside trying to offer you certain freebies to get you in. These nightclubs/disco bars are good enough fun but not the places to go really if you are looking to experience real spanish nightlife!

Another area which has some good bars and nightclubs is further along down near the beach. One of the clubs down there is Baja Beach Club which I went to once and was good fun with people up dancing on the bar etc.

I did end up in a true Barcelona nightclub called Razmattaz which was full mainly of locals. It was very big and easy to get lost in with about 5 different floors of music and a pretty cool roof garden to chill out on or go for a cigarette. This club went on until about 6am and was a lot cooler than the touristy nightclubs but the atmosphere maybe wasn't as relaxed and it was a lot more difficult to get chatting to people.

There are some cool cocktail bars if you wander slightly off Las Ramblas a bit. I would advise staying away from the bars on Las Ramblas as you will get totally ripped off and pay about Euro9 a beer! There's also a pretty cool area of Barcelona called Gracia I would recommend trying out as it has a lot of good live band type bars and a really good atmosphere. You need to get the underground to get there but if you want to get away from all the tourist spots for a night and sample the local nightlife this is a good idea!

Summary: A good variety of places to go!
