Costello's (Limerick)
by Rook252
Costello's is a pub in limerick which as a student I, like thousands of other students, used to spend my weekends, and some of my week day evenings...ok all of my weekday evenings, I admit it.
Anyway, back to the pub itself. It is a nice old style pub with various random pieces on the walls, like road signs, old Irish phrases ... and old adverts for the likes of Woodbine and Players cigarettes, and of course the obligatory picture, photos and other memorabilia from various horse racing events (although the horse stuff is genuine as the guy who runs the place is big into his horse racing)
The pub itself is, not to put too fine a point on it, a dive. The pints of larger are terrible and the cider is no better. And I wouldn't trust the "food" as far as I could throw the pub. But what it does have is a great atmosphere on a night when there are people there and it does a damn good pint of Guinness too.
So if you are looking for a bit of ceoil, caint agus craic (music, conversation and fun) on an evening then this is definitely one to check out. Read the complete review |

The Rhythm Factory (London)
by shaneo632
The Rhythm Factory is a small-ish pub/music club located in Whitechapel. I went there last night (Friday) for a quick drink, and although it wasn't what I expected, it's still a nice, fun way to unwind with plenty of convenient travel to and from it.
It is conveniently located in between Whitechapel and Aldgate East Tube ... stations, meaning that wherever you live, it's easy to get home, and if you stay past tube operating hours, there are also tonnes of night buses running outside, meaning you'll never have to walk home alone in the dark or anything!
As for the pub itself, it was a lot more understated than I expected. I assumed that it was a big club, and from the rumble of the bass from outside, you might expect so, but on a Friday night of all nights, there was maybe a dozen people in the bar section. This part is quite nice, though; it has a warm atmosphere with some nice art on the walls and some pictures of various bands near the bar. They do not only serve alcohol but also coffee, and they will order take away for you if you ask them! Beyond the pub is a door to a club room, although this is where I was really underwhelmed; it has plenty of "banging" music, but there was only about five people in there on a Friday night! I promptly returned to the bar as I didn't fancy an awkward experience like that!
Price-wise it's what you'd expect from London - a pint and a shot + mixer costs £6.50, so it's not extortionate for the area but not too cheap either. While I did like the pub, it didn't really have the party vibe I expected and so is hardly the place to be for partygoers. Read the complete review |

Sankey's Soap (Manchester)
by Smokey McRobinson
Sankey's is possibly the best night in Manchester. With a great club atmosphere and plenty of very cool people (eg, if you knock someones drink on the foor by accident then you are 10x more likely to get a hug than a punch). The people who attend are your usual mix of people out for one large night and people who attend every week ... because it's just that good. The music is always top notch whether you are going to a big name night or not. The cloakroom works, and the attendants are nice as the proverbial pie. The dress code is whatever looks good, I have previosly attended in my sambas and tee, and have also been in suited and booted at other times. The bar can be expensive if you drink the wrong drinks, but no more expensive than elsewhere in town, infact I would say it is on the cheaper side of club prices (when I say expensive this is my Eezer Scrooge side coming out). Tap water is given free, so keep your empty bottle and get it filled. All in all a freking top night. Absolutely f*cking A!! Read the complete review |
