Advantages: It was a good club

Disadvantages: Erm...it's been knocked down

I have to say it was a huge surprise to me to see this place listed on here, especially as it no longer exists, and hasn't for oh... must be five years or so. In fact, the building it used to be in is no longer there, instead there is yet another block of small expensive flats in what can only be described as a less then ideal location.

Atomics used to be the proper club in the town, ok there was an Ikon (also now gone) for the commercial chart time dance music for all the 'beautiful people' and a Jumpin' Jaks for the seriously cheesey music (Come on Eileen, every weekend without fail!!!) for the older generation or the people who just wanted a laugh whilst they were out. Atomics was all about the music, the underground scene, mad drum n bass, etc etc. It was the place the people who were seriously into their dance music went and was by all accounts very good for this.

I only ever actually went to Atomics on two or three occasions, each time I was drinking and lets just say my memories are a tad on the hazy side! I seem to remember the bouncers being much more friendly than those of Ikon etc, and your face didn't have to fit in the same way as more commercial places, if you weren't a total mess and off your face you were allowed in.

The actual club was very dark indeed, much more so than the bright and airy mainstream clubs, even the dance florr had limited lighting. I guess some of the darkness was to hide the fact that it was actually a pretty small place.

The music, which I have to admit was rather alien to me, was loud and pretty heavy dance stuff, was quite an intense place but the people all seemd to be into it.

I have to say though, both times I went there I was approached and asked if I wanted any pills, this is totally not my thing but each to their own. I'm guessing that being quite a serious clubbers clubm the pill scene was quite prevelant in this place.

I did enjoy me nights in this palce, though it was a little too hardcore for my tastes really.

I'm sure it is greatly missed by a lot of people.

Summary: A now distant memory

I was just surprised it was listed here and wanted put down my thoughts about it.

In the town, it is quite a missed place.

I don't see the point in reviewing something that no longer exists!
