Advantages: none - unless your a druggie or underage

Disadvantages: BAD music, annoying MCs, heavy drug culture, a lot of young teens, bad attitude.

It’s not that often I go to a club and have an absolutely miserable time. I mean usually even if the music is bad, or the atmosphere isn’t great you can make the best of the situation with a few mates and have a good laugh, but not here. We tried. We really had to make a concerted effort to have fun and still didn’t succeed. We’d gathered a group together with the intention of going to Fabric, but because the Chemical Brothers were playing it was ‘one in one out’ very early on and we were forced to try someplace else. I knew Bagley’s wasn’t too far away and I’d seen some flyers round our university for it so we decided to give it a go. As soon as we got there I could see we’d made a major error of judgement. I couldn’t say what was the worst thing about this club, but I would struggle coming up with one positive thing to say, that is unless you’re underage and haven’t the fake ID to go anywhere that isn’t dependant on the income it makes from young teens, in which case – this is the club for you kids! There were far too many trashy looking fourteen year old girls being eyed-up by fifty year old men. It was quite disturbing. And it seemed the majority of people in there were completely off their face on drugs. Just walking up to the club we were approached by two men asking if we were sorted for gear. I’m sure some people would think this great news, but it was certainly not what we’d been expecting.

Bagleys is basically a very run-down warehouse, add a few lights, a few crudely drawn murals, a booming sound system that pumps out some really dodgy drum and bass/hardcore ‘supposed’ music, accompanied by the most annoying inept MCs and combined with a really rough atmosphere where you feel uneasy to even make eye-contact with people in case they march over and accuse you of looking at them in the wrong way. I can’t say I felt particularly sa
fe in there. There was far too much attitude, even for a club in London – and that’s saying something! We tried to get into the spirit of things and head towards the dance floor, but we just couldn’t dance to that music. It was so dire. After about an hour or so we just couldn’t take anymore! We left feeling slightly cheated that we’d just spent over £10 each to sit around in some cold dingy warehouse, though relieved we were all still in one piece!
