Advantages: Good Spirits Selection, Individual Champagne Bar, Reasonable Prices
Disadvantages: Cheesy music, Cheesy Dancers, Upstairs has no atmosphere, Dj won't take any requests
The Baja Beach Club seems to have ridiculously long qeues that the unsuspecting visitor assumes this is the sign it is good. Unfortunately, it's dreadful. So why does it attract such big qeues you ask? Well I wish I knew the answer. It could be to do with the fact that last time I went they were playing the likes of Hear'Say and S Club &, now I absolutely hate this stuff, but due to the chart success of these bands, obviously a lot of people like this music. Also, they seem to let people in very slowly, which could also be a contributing factor. After the long qeues, which seem longest at around 10:30 to 11, it usually costs around £5 on a Saturday to get in, and about £3 on a weekday. These prices aren't bad, and to be fair, the prices inside, for a nightclub, are reasonable too at just £2 a pint and the same for most Spirits. The Spirits section is huge, which is another good point, and they serve all the common lagers and bitters. There is also an entire Champagne bar, which is a unique addition which few clubs seem to have. The visitors are of mixed ages, though mostly late teens and 20s. The music as I have explained earlier, is pop type music, the worst end of pop too. The DJ does not take requests, so you're forced to endure his selection of music. Even if you do enjoy the music, you'll find it's constantly interrupted by a recording every 5 minutes which says "The Baja Beach Club - the only place to party" in a cheesy American accent. The whole feel of the place is very cheesy, with a wooden beach theme, some sort of big fish (I forget what now) looming over the dancefloor, masses of confetti dropped over the dancefloor every few minutes, and ridiculous dancers performing above the dancefloor. there're also TVs absolutely everywhere, showing the same footage of surfing again and again, which is tedious and irritating, though occasionally it shows footage of BASE jumping, which is more
me. Upstairs there is food available, though I'm not sure what the prices are, I didn't bother with that. Upstairs it all seems too bright for a nightclub, the feel that you're on a night out is spoilt, and because it is bright, people are dancin less and it's just that bit too spacious. Certainly no partying atmosphere upstairs. I struggle to see how this club is worth the wait to get in, but if you still want to go, I suggest you arrive before 10PM, as the qeueus get absolutely huge, the biggest in Newcastle. If you want my opinion, Newcastle has so much more to offer, Foundation I believe is the best club in Newcastle, though there're so many clubs you can never try them all.
