Advantages: Great venue... cheap drinks b4 9

Disadvantages: unsuitable crowd sometimes...

I've been to Rumba alot over the two years I've been living in London. It always seems to be the only option after my couple of pints on a thursday.

I've seen some classic nights, ranging from a guest appearance from DJ Marky (who promptly mashed it up... I will describe later...), to Todd Terry (doing his first official drum'n'bass set). All have had their good and bad points.

The club itself is an underground affair. This is accentuated by the low ceilings and long, thin plan.

Before the main club opens( the dancefloor is shut off by screens until about 10.30-11) there are DJ-hopefulls performing in the bar; the new breed getting a chance to show off their skills infront of a very discerning crowd ( and boy, have I seen some cheeky skills!)

The bar is WELL cheap before 9 (entry is also free b4 9) with drinks at 2-for-the-price-of-1 (unheard-of in a west-end-club). So it makes a good place to go after work anyway; superb music to get you in the mood, and cheap drinks.

The bar itself is a decent size, and well staffed. The most exciting thing about this space thuogh is the low ceiling. Tall people may experience difficulties when trying to dance in this area! Don't worry though, there's plenty headroom in the main dancefloor. I think its superb... just perfect for that underground vibe.

I won't say much about the music, because it depends what you like... generally it is superb, but could do with a few more hard-funk tunes rather than the monotonous 'Renegade Hardware'-style industrial choonage that is overplayed sometimes.

The crowd is mixed; there is the usual crowd of regulars (looking younger by the week), and raver, but there are also the drunken lager lout-types that crawl in from leicester square, looking for somewhere to continue poisoning themselves after the pubs have shut.

That said, I always end up having a good time...
hope to see
ya there!
