Advantages: fun, good laugh
Disadvantages: bad music, kinda expensive
Inverness is not the best place for a wild night out, though I'm sure it isn't the worst. One of the most popular places for over 18 year olds is Blue, a dance club in the town centre. Those of you who have some idea about my tastes may be a little surprised that I would go to a club that plays dance music but I live about 4 hours away from the nearest rock club, and beggars can't be choosers. Blue opens every night but the most popular nights are Friday and Saturday. It is most popular with the 18 to 25 age range but you will see older people and younger ones who have managed to get past security. Unfortunatly, as with many places these days, when there is a lot of alcohol and drugs there are some problems but the security is very good at sorting things out quickly. Usually if someone looks like they will cause problems they will not be allowed in and the police are aware of problems with drug dealers so they have undercover people working there. As a whole people are not aggressive and if you wear something unusual they might come and ask you about it but won't cause problems- I quite often get compliments on my style which is always nice! There are two main levels to Blue- the ground floor which plays dance music and has one bar and seating areas as well as a large dance floor, and an upstair balcony with a room which plays music which I would define as chart and rap(Eminem,Christina Aguilera, Timberlake etc), and three bars. The ground floor also has three podiums and UV lighting. There is also a cigarette machine, and newly added last night was a Hot Snack Machine. The bar serves a the expected range of drinks from beers and alcopops, to spirits and shots. Before midnight all drinks are buy one get one free for example two bottles of VK (vodka based alcopop) will cost £3.50, which is good if you're there with a mate. Water is always available for free. Once a month Blue hosts Blue Mag which is a
fetish night, but it is in no way as exciting as it sounds as people here are fairly narrow minded. Entrance is £5 on normal nights and £6 on fetish nights. Blue opens at 10.30pm(doors close at 12) and now, due to new licensing laws closes at 3am. The cloakroom charges the standard price of £1 to leave a jacket. If you're ever stuck in Inverness and want a fun night out, I'd suggest heading to Blue as its a good atmosphere especially after 11pm. Since I have only ever been to two night clubs I can't really compare it to one that you might find in London or elsewhere but if you like to dance and have a good time then you will do.

- 30/09/03 i dont think its fair to say the music in blue is crap, although you like rock. alot of people go to blue to get away from the cheese merchant chart pants that they play in G's and the majority of dance music fans would prefer blue. But the dance music attracts more than its fair share of pillheads to blue. :) |

- 26/03/03 It's £3.50 for two drinks before midnight? Does that mean it's £3.50 a bottle after midnight? That's terrible. It's worse than terrible, it's REALLY fucking bad! Been in my share of trendy dance hellholes (that's all there is where I stay too, I have to get to Glasgow for decent nights out) and I usually have to get really wasted to have a good time in them - but at those prices??!!
Oh, good review by the way! |
