Advantages: everything as far as I remember.... lol
Disadvantages: nothing!
When at uni we went quite often to the student night at Camel and always had a great night!
I hadn't been for a while so when we were all out from work on Saturday night and somebody produced a flyer for the '90's night' we all jumped at the chance thinking the music would be good stuff.
The clubs address is 1 Byram Court and if you'd never been there you'd not be able to find it and probably wouldn't know it existed! It is underneath the Byram Arcade and you access it by going down an alley between two shops. You then go down a few steps and into the club.
90's night
~~~~~~~~~
The night we went, Saturday 13th September.
Before midnight entry to the club was just 90p and even better all the drinks (apart from spirits) so bottles, pints etc were all just...you guessed it 90p! A spirit and a mixer was only £1.50 though.
So we got there about 11.30pm and got in for 90p and proceeded to the bar. A lad from work was feeling very generous and just bought loads of VK bottles (about 8 at a time) and told us to help ourselves!
Then at about 5 to midnight (the bar was packed as drink prices were going up in 5 minutes) we fought our way to the front of the crowds and he bought us another 6 bottles to keep us going.
There are little 'stages' all around the dancefloor where people either sit or climb up and dance on....I was on these dancing a lot of the night, not very safe climbing up in 4 inch heels though, had to hope there was a friendly man to pull me up lol!
So overall I had a great night dancing and drinking, the music was fantastic with lots of old skool tunes and best of all my favourite song from school 'Teenage Dirtbag' by Wheatus!!
I love the atmosphere when they're playing all these old songs which provoke memories within everyone there, you can hear everyone realising whats songs bout to play and jumping up to dance!
Afterparty
~~~~~~~~~
This is held at the Camel Club once a month and is from 2am until 8am, its meant to be for the bar staff in town as this starts when most bars close but everyone goes and its always a good...morning!
The entry for this is a bit more than usual club nights, last time I went it was about £10 but the drinks are always cheap in Camel.
Always a very busy night.
My mum informs me the Camel club used to be an old dance hall with balconies around the edges which she visited in the 60's; these balconies have now gone.
The club looks really old (in a good way) with all the stone walls and little hidey holes, its kind of like a cave!
There are plenty of toilets, I think there's 3 ladies and 2 mens and its not a very big club so defintely plenty!
Theres just 1 bar but even when it was busy you got served pretty quick so no complaints there either.
Overall, theres everything you need from a night club: cheap drinks, great music and lots of people!
Summary: what more could you want in a nightclub?
