As you may have noticed from all my other opinions I love clubbing and the music that I listen to when I am in a club. You could say that clubbing is my life and I may agree with you (maybe).

Now lets get one thing straight from the start, when I say clubbing I do not mean down the local 'ritzy' on Saturday night. By this I mean a club playing chart music (cheese) where everyone is there to pull, get pissed and spill kebab down themselves on the way home. Although many people enjoy this kind of clubbing, and that's their choice, I don't and almsot never go out on that kind of night. No, what I mean by clubbing is going somewhere where the music is dance music (my favourite being progressive trance), and most people are there for the music, not to pull or get drunk, but there to forget about their everyday lives an get lost in the atmosphre and the music for a few hours. These kinds of clubs can be found in most towns, though they are often not as well known as the more popular 'ritzy' type clubs as they are focussed on a smaller target audience. They are often dismissed as being dirty places where druggies hang out, and though I agree there is a lot of drug use in such places the atmosphere that they have is usually amazing, and you don't NEED drugs there to have a good time, as is the common perception.

So what makes a good club then? Well, for me there are two main things that a good club has to have, they are: the music and the atmosphere, though without the good music you don't get the atmosphere, so I suppose it's all about the music. The clubbers that frequent such clubs that I would class as good are generally regulars who know what type of music is being played on a particular night and go for their love of the music. This love is then shown on the dancefloor and the general good mood of the club. You'll be able to talk to nearly anyone there and always have one basic thing in common, a love for the m
usic. Although, saying this the layout and general feeling of the club can have a huge effect on the atmosphere also, so I reckon that also has to be considered. There are loads of great clubs out there and I would thoroughly reccomend these:

The Glasshouse, Leeds (Saturday). It's lost a bit of it's charm since moving from it's home at Digby's to Heaven and Hell but still pulls in the friendliest nutters in Leeds.

Sankey's Soap, Manchester. Although Golden don't host Saturday's anymore it's still a quality night out guaranteed, especially with Tribal Sessions pulling in all the big boys (Sasha, Digweed etc..) on a Friday.

Cream, Liverpool. I've only been once but can't wait to go again, simply ace. Going from strength to strength with their new 'anything go's' music policy.

Basics, Leeds. The Mint Club is gorgeous and Dave Beer certainly knows how to throw a great party, house music at it's best, small but perfectly formed..

Although I may only go out clubbing at the weekends that's not where it stops. I also DJ and listen to house music all the time. I listen to all the good radio shows (Danny Rampling etc...) to keep up with all the new releases and buy Mixmag as soon as it comes out, read it from cover to cover and then not be able to wait for the next one. When I'm down the pub with my clubber mates it's all we'll talk about, new mixes of some obscure track, or just reliving old experiences, waiting for the weekend. I think that's when you know that you're a proper clubber, when all you can think about is your next outing and nothing else matters. It's hard to describe the actual feeling, but I'm sure it's the same for anyone who's passionate about something.

I'm not sure where this opinion has gone really, I'd like to think that I've managed to convey some of the enthusiasm that I hold for my lifestyl
e, though I've probably only come out sounding very sad and boring. Sorry. But if you understand what I'm trying to say then good, and remember that the weekend is coming.

Haven't been clubbing in aaaages - much rather stay in with a good wine and a video these days - help, I'm only 23! The best night I had out clubbing was at Cream in 1997! The chemical borthers were djing and no-one I've seen since has compared..
