Advantages: Dance all night, Get drunk, Have loads of fun
Disadvantages: Busy, Expensive, Hang overs
Clubbing is a religion. As Faithless says, the club is the church, the DJ is god and the customers are the worshipers. What's it all about? "Several thousand clubbers in a dark space, flying high as pounding beats and pulsating house grooves rattle around the system. Electricity fizzles through the air as the DJ works the tension to unbearable levels, then all hell breaks loose as the biggest tune of the night is thrown into the mix and the crowd frenzy reaches a floor shattering crescendo" Euphoria 2. Thousands of people all over the world spend ages getting ready, get the drinks in and dance till the early hours. Then they spend the best part of the next day in bed recovering. It's the culture of today's youth (Youth being over 18 we hope!!!). Clubs have been around for a while but my experience of them has only been in the past 2/3 years and especially since going to Uni. I live in Scotland and basically with only a handful of clubs in my area they are hardly worth mentioning. However, my second home Leeds, is where I practise my new religion big time. I go with my friends to clubs at least once a week but being students we never go on the weekends (due to high prices) when the real clubbing takes place. Clubs used to be about dance music but with new super clubs with several rooms, the type of music is extremley varied. They cater for pretty much all tastes and all have similar features. A bar, a DJ, a dance floor and late licences. In large clubs, the atmosphere is something else. When there are 2000 people dancing away to loud music and loving every minute, you can't help but feel the buzz. The tunes mix in together leaving you inspired. The adrenaline runs and you can't help but smile. Maybe that scientific theory that loud music triggers hormones (similar to those released by chocolate and sex) into your blood is very true! Clubs are all about having a good time. Whether this means just
dancing to your favourite tunes, getting drunk or pulling a fit lad (or girl), is all fun. There are some disadvantages though. Clubbing is an expensive hobby. It costs about 3-4 quid to get in and drinks are usually pricey. Plus the cost of the cloakroom and the taxi home. Ah, that's where all my loan went! They can often be very busy, you sometimes have to queue to get in, queue for the bar etc and the dancefloor can be packed someimes. Also if you're female and wear strappy shoes, blisters are common. You also have to watch out for the dodgy goings on! Then there is the morning after. Hang over, ringing ears and £30 less in your wallet. But whatever the bad bits, if you like the music, your mates are with you then you can't fail to have a good time and go again and again. I would recommend cities like Glasgow, Sheffield, Leeds and obviously London for the best clubs. London is the UK clubbers paradise. I went once on a Saturday night and Leicester Square (the main club area I think) was like a shopping centre the day before Christmas- packed and buzzing and it was 2am.
