Advantages: funky, Good music, Different types of music
Disadvantages: Can get very full
Clwb Ifor Bach, also known as the Welsh Club is a must when in Cardiff. All the new up and coming Welsh bands visit it as well as new indie type bands from around the world. It is situated 10 minutes away from Cardiff central train and bus station, on Womanby Street near the Millenium Stadium. The Club has three different floors with different types of music playing on each floor. This includes indie, rock, metal, hip hop, funk, dance, and chart. The bottom floor has plenty of room for dancing and also sitting in groups of friends. The middle floor normally concentrates on funk and is very laid back with lava lamp patterns projected on the walls. The top floor is used for live bands with room no sit down. Student night is on a Tuesday when there are plenty of offers on certain drinks. There is always a good atmosphere and it attracts plenty of people who prefer more indie/rock type of music. The prices to get in vary depending if any live bands are playing or not. You need to become a member if you want to end up there on drunken nights although if you want to see a specific band you can buy tickets prior to the event and not worry abotu membership. The whole concept of Clwb Ifor Bach centres around Wales and the Welsh language. The clwb aims to promote Welsh. Although to become a member you are supposed to be a Welsh speaker or want to increase the knowledge of Wales in general no one bothers to question this when you sign up. Membership costs £2 and lasts a year. Clwb Ifor Bach is the place to be in Cardiff, regularly haunted by members of Welsh bands such as the Manic Street Preachers and Super Furry Animals and you are guarenteed a good time there. If you are not Welsh don't let this put you off as you will be welcomed. Go there!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- 12/02/02 Spoke to my mates in Barry, and they all reckon that it is a bit too Taffia for their taste.
We all gave up 'Dysgi Cymraeg' when in the fourth form and treat the Welsh Medium with the derision it deserves. |
