Advantages: A different night out
Disadvantages: None
The above review was clearly written by a moron
I see he mentions the ol' "Private Function" problem, which as everybody with half a brain & decent taste in music in Limerick knows is based on a tatty old poster Flan has had stuck to the door for the last decade which he points to as an excuse not to let in pissed assholes in Ben Sherman shirts who have taken a wrong turn on their way to the nearest kebabbery.
Costelloes has indeed been a Limerick Art College staple for nearly 20 years, but that's mostly midweek. On Friday and Saturday nights the clientele range in age from early 20s to late 30s... It's very casual, with a large circular lounge downstairs quietly playing anything from The Shins to Frank Sinatra... Chat & booze with mates down here before braving the tatty yet beloved "disco bar" upstairs, where you will invariably end up dancing like an ape to maybe The Smiths/Modest Mouse before the night is out, all this punctuated by cigarette breaks in what may be one of Irelands only "smoking cages".
To wrap it up, make sure you hang about when the lights have gone on at 3am (ish) to source one of the many inevitable parties that will be taking place in the near locality... if you play your cards right, you might swing an invite!
And finally, all the above for a grubby fiver in on the door.... Ah Flan, we do love you you legend!
Summary: Casual, fun, different to the norm without being OTT
