Advantages: Good reputation, great music, nice atmosphere

Disadvantages: For non-Londoners, the entrance and drinks are expensive

Well, there's no doubting that The End has a fantastic reputation. Whenever you mention that you're going there, people tell you how great it is. Living as far away from London as I do, most of these people haven't actually been there, but they're certain you'll have a funky night out.

I admit my first visit had a few perks - the people I went with got us on the guestlist (no queue, no cost) and we had unlimited access to the VIP room (with its own bar). So... I can't really describe the average clubber's experience. But hey, I listened to the same music as everyone else.

I went on a Saturday night, Easter weekend, and I think it was Digital Disco. Derrick May was the main DJ, with some Japanese guy in the other room (sorry for my lack of specifics). Both rocked the club pretty well - by 11 it was full and everyone was dancing with (drug-induced?) energy. As mentioned by others, yes, drugs are around in the club. But you can avoid them if you want to, and the bouncers (to be fair) are strict on the door - they even confiscated a friend's packet of chewing gum! Anyway, the music's good and loud enough to get you high without any help.

The atmosphere throughout the night was always friendly, and the people were all pretty cool (no 40-year old lecherous men, or very few). Dress was in general casual - for girls, think loose trousers and a funky top. Do not, I repeat, do not come in a tiny skirt with heels and a boob tube. You will not fit in (and your feet will hurt by 6am).

Gossip from the VIP room included a sighting of a Buffy star (gasp!). I couldn't actually see who it was, because they had their own section of the room (heavily guarded), but I tell people it was David Boreanez. It sounds impressive. Derrick May also dropped in after his set.

The End have their own website - not sure exactly what it is, but you can easily find it through a search engine - which is informative. It
has a map, etc. You should have a funky time whatever, but my advice (for the funkiest time) is to find someone with contacts. It'll save you £15 and the time you would spend jostling at the bar. You might even get a star chucked in for free...
