Blue Angel (Liverpool)
by ellieeex
The Blue Angel AKA The Razz, looks kind of like an ordinary pub...it's not! On tuesdays especially, the students of liverpool appear at the doors, clamouring to get in for their £1 drinks.
The upstairs looks every bit like a normal pub, excpet maybe shabbier, and busier. However, if you make your way to the back, there's a ... plain white door, go through this and down the stairs, and you're in the club! It's the dirtiest club I've ever set foot in, but the music's decent. It's like chart r'n'b/dance, the kind of thing that most people like. Just don't wear nice shoes, and give your legs and feet the wash of their lives when you get home!
It costs me £1 to get in, but I've heard it sometimes costs about £4, so not entirely sure how much it should cost, but no more than a fiver. The drinks are reasonable, even on a saturday they only cost about 2 or 3 pound. It's a decent night out, and if you're a student in Liverpool, a visit to the Razz at some point in your University life is practically mandatory. Enjoy! Read the complete review |

Medication - Cream @ Nation (Liverpool)
by ellieeex
Med! This is one of the most infamous student nights in Liverpool, and for good reason! Every wednesday hundreds of students descend upon nation dressed according to whatever theme the medication organisers have dreamed up that week. At only five pound to get in, and many drinks at £1.50, it's a huge draw for students. It's always mega ... busy, and its such a good atmosphere in there.
There are three rooms, one is r'n'b music, the next is dance and trance, and the final is pop, cheese, and soft rock. The rooms are all fairly big, the dance and pop rooms being bigger than the r'n'b room, and they all have raised platforms in the middle. There are in the bits between all the rooms, and in the section alongside the dance room. When its super busy, it does take a while to get a drink, but they've got plenty of bar staff, so even when it's crammed you will get one in the end. The drinks are very cheap, its £1.50 for most spirits and mixers, £2 for most bottles, and £1 a shot.
The atmosphere is great, its all students so you don't really get many troublemakers, everyone just wants to have a good time. Every week there is a theme, and lots of people dress up for it, seeing how inventive people have been in quite funny!
The bouncers are quite strict on entry, if you don't have a student card, you probably won't be getting in. If you don't fancy queuing, run over to Walkabout, where you can get a wristband for £5 that gets you straight in (if you do this, you have to buy a drink in Walkabout). Overall, if you're a student and you're in Liverpool, you have to try med! It's a great night. Hope this was helpful, thanks for reading. Read the complete review |

Club de Fromage (London)
by kjmccabe
I attended club de fromage on its opening night with a group of friends from my old work place and I have to say.. there is no turning back.
Basically, club de fromage, as the title suggests, is a club playing the cheesiest music in the capital.
Venue:
It is on every Saturday night in Islington's O2 Academy in the ... N1 Centre (formally Marque Club). It is a five minute walk from Angel Underground Station and a short stumble away from Angel's Upper Street where a variety of night buses will take you home, such as the N38, N19, N43, 341 and N30. Once you get to the N1 Centre you cant miss the venue, it is next to 'Next'.
The Venue itself is rather spacious, not unlike a school dance floor with a raised platform at the front and a bar at either side of the room. Both the bars tend to get quite busy so I would recommend getting a few drinks at a time.
Drinks:
As you would expect in Angel, they are not dirt cheap, but not as bad as the west end. Generally you're looking at paying £2.70 - £3 for a can of beer and £3.50 for a single spirit and mixer. There are no frills in the club and it has very much a festival or 'students union' feeling with the drinks being served either in cans or plastic cups.
The Music:
As the name suggests... Cheese! Generally a mix of 80s, 90s and 00's cheese... expect favorites such as Blondie, a good range of Michael Jackson, Status Quo, Kylie and even the old soundtrack such as the Grease Mega Mix or The Grange Hill Theme - you may cringe, but I have often found it difficult to time a toilet or bar break as the music is so good.
The Punters:
Expect a lot of Hen Parties, and a generally mixed crowd.. I am in my late twenties and I never feel old going out here. People come here because they want to have a drink, a dance and a good time. I have been here lots and lots and I have never witnessed any trouble. There are often theme nights however, with reduced price entry for those who come in fancy dress so check the website for details.
The Price:
£6.50 in advance
£8 before midnight
£10 after midnight
Not that bad for a club that goes on to 4 in the morning in a trendy part of London
My only gripe with this place is that it costs £2 to put your coat into the coat check, and there is often a bit of a queue to get in... Other than that, I LOVE this place Read the complete review |
