Advantages: Wicked music and atmosphere
Disadvantages: A bit chilly in some places
Having moved to London 4 months ago, I am ashamed to say that my experience of the nightlife had not extended much further than overpriced, posey pubs and clubs in the West End, until the first Friday in February when a friend visiting from Liverpool persuaded me to venture a little further East. I was advised to dress down for Fabric, and I'm glad I did. We arrived at 9.30 having been unable to buy tickets earlier in the day - it was still about £12 to get in (£10 N.U.S.), but we only queued for, what, 2mins, and another bonus was that we got to familiarise ourselves with the rather large and labrynthial (if that is a word) interior before the hoardes arrived. Cloakrooms only £1; tip, go to the outside one, less busy. We sank down on comfy sofas to recover from the shock of paying £5 for a double vodka and lemonade (singles were £3, hmmm, I see the logic). Through the smoky, shadowy air lounging people of a variety of ages (but predominately early 20s) checked each other out. The music was fantastic - I'd went to see French House dj's Cassius, but Norman Cook and other big acts were also playing. Despite having heard horror stories about sardine-type dancefloors, I found plenty of room to strut my stuff. The only bad thing I could say about it was when I ventured to the (mixed) bathrooms, slightly the worse for wear, admittedly, it took me about 3 hours to figure out how to turn on the taps, until some kind young man indicated to the (well-concealed) foot pedals on the floor - magic! Oh, and another thing, those primary-school assembly benches / chuch pews they tried to pass off as seating on the edges of the dancefloor are NOT cool, just bum-squaringly uncomfortable. But all in all, a fantastical night was had, not just by my group, but seemingly by all the lovely persons in the entire club. Will definately return.
