Advantages: students, offers on drinks, especially on student nights!

Disadvantages: queues

Since i live in leeds, i havent been out many times in sheffield, but the times i have, ive been to Republic. Prices have recently gone up, but we can let them off since its such a great club! My most recent visit was on thursday. I bought my ticket at a bar earlier on in the night to save on queuing, which is a very good idea, although a lot of people tend to do this, which then may end up in defeating the object! On thursday i paid £4.50 with an NUS card, which is around the price i would usually pay to get in a club on a usual night out in leeds.

When i arrived at republic, i joined the fast ticket queue and stood there for less than 5minutes before i was allowed in, the normal queue was massive, and i would have had to stand there for at least 10minutes if not longer.

Even though it was early when i arrived, republic was packed, thats one problem with the bar, you can stand for 15minutes waiting to be served. With thursday being a student night, drinks start at as little as £1, which is great for all the poor students!

the music was as they call it on the gatecrasher website 'classic pop', or what id call cheese, which is what i love! however, if you're not into your cheese, there is the electric box room, which is a lot smaller, and often very quiet compared to the main room and lobby!

upstairs is a seating area, which is perfect to rest those sore feet, and to have a bit of a chat. from there, you can also view the crowds, trying to spot that bit of talent you're after!

you can go onto the gatecrasher website and join the guest list in order to avoid queues and they even do special rates for groups 30+

thursday was a typical student night, students everywhere. i have been on a friday night as well, and that was pretty much the same, then again there are thousands of students i sheffield!
