Advantages: Variety of music, Good theme-nights and special guests, Lots of places to sit down to take a dance-break
Disadvantages: Drinks quite expensive, Music quite commercial in Ikon
I live about 3 miles from the centre of Wakefield, so for obvious reasons the city is normally my first choice for clubs. Ikon & Mustang Sally's is considered one of the better clubs in Wakefield by many, over-shadowing Buzz and Foundation in many people's opinions, but it all depends on what music you prefer. If you spend your Friday or Saturday night at Ikon/Sally's then you're pretty sure of a quality night out, Ikon has all the pumping tunes, which is good if you're into house and trance; Mustang Sally's has a lot of retro/commercial tunes that really get everyone up dancing, so there's really something there for everybody. The only gripe I would have is that Ikon's house music is sometimes a bit commercial. The entrance price is reasonable to good, and if you are an Ikon/Sally's Membership Card holder then there's £1 off the entrance fee. Drinks prices are quite high but there is a wide selection of drinks that would suit most people. The people there are generally quite friendly, and the age range (from my experiences) varies from teenagers to 20-somethings. The place is well staffed too, so getting served at the bar rarely takes longer than a couple of minutes, each club has several bars and from my experience, bar crowds are never much of a problem. One of the best attractions of Ikon is it's regular celebrity guest appearances, from the likes of Fragma, Darude, and Sound Dezign. When I went to see Darude there he was absolutely amazing! Overall I would say that Ikon/Sally's is a top-class night out that would satisfy anybody's clubbing tastes.
