On my first trip see some friends at university in Newcastle i was told that we would probably being going to Legends, fair enough i thought, its a club, it sells booze and more importantly its better than sitting in a student union watching Liverpool fart about for 90 minutes. So off we trundled down the main street of Newcastle and then it dawned on my 'mate' that after 7 months of living in Newcaslte he didn't actually know how to get to Legends, claiming he only knew the way to Legends from the Quayside? whatever.
So after wandering about for a while we finally made it to the club, first impression whilst we stood outside, getting ID's checked, was what the hell are we doing here, the front is no more than a wooden door with a reception booth just inside, but as it only cost us a pound to get we continued down the stairs.
When you get to the bottom of the stairs theres a bar area and some seats and a small 'corridor' running along the bar and then further accrossthe club. We ventured depper down some more stairs into another bar area and small dancefloor, at this point i was wondering how they would fit more than about 50 people in the club because it was tiny.
Then at about five to eleven there was a large gathering of people at a garage door, chanting fire wall? again slightly miffed i was told to wait and see, and sure enough at eleven o'clock some old style devil music came on and the garage door lifted and everyone piled through into a big dance floor area and another bar and food area, at last the club seemed half decent.
A revelation came not long after this mesmorising and somewhat memorable event, the downstairs area of the club was the Hip Hop area, nice.
So of i went to listen to some decent tunes and a class dj turns up the heat, bringing the night back to a respectable level.
The tunes in both parts of the club were pumping but i've got to say that if youre into
hip hop music then Legends on a Thursday night is definately worth it.
Fair enough the club might need a slight renovation and the 'firewall' repainted to look remotely like a wall and then it will be a world class club.
