Advantages: massive, great lasers
Disadvantages: easy to loose people, crowded dancefloor
Majestics is easily the biggest club in Leeds with a whopping capacity of around 2000! It is situated in city square, very close to the train station and all the local bus stops. There are also loads of bars in this area of town so it's not to hard to find somewhere to go for a pre-club pint. The club is very hard to miss because of it's massive size and enormous banners hanging outside. Majestyk used to be a bingo hall and the main room is absolutely humongous. The dancefloor is situated in the centre of the club with the DJ boothe postioned at the far end of it. There are plenty of platforms around to prance about on but the dancefloor does get very crowded, which can be rather annoying when you are trying to get down to your favourite tune. The sound and lighting on the dancefloor are both very good, the lighting rigs hang over the dancefloor and the lasers are absolutely amazing. They have postioned quite a few mirrors around the club to reflect the green lasers right up to the ceiling, certainly a sight to behold. There is seating all around the dancefloor, and there are two bars situated on the ground floor, one in front of, and one behind the dancefloor. They are generally quite well staffed and the wait for a drink is generally not too bad. There are two more levels in the mainroom, both have bars and seating areas and give good views over the dancefloor. The VIP room is situated on the first level, and gives the more important among us a chance to get away from the riff raff down on the dancefloor. There are two lots of toilets, one on the ground floor and one on the top level, there is also a food outlet on the groundfloor if all the dancing leaves you needing a bite to eat. On busy nights the second room is opened up, this is situated underneath the main room and is a lot smaller, I've never actually been in this room as it's generally forgotten about, but I've been told it can get rather hot and sweaty, mmm nice. Because of t
he clubs size it's very easy to loose all your friends, and one of my mates has even been found asleep in a broom cupboard at the end of the night, after failing to find us after going to the toilet. Majestyk is open Tuesday to Saturday and they often have special events on Bank Holiday Sunday's, such as Back 2 Basics and they are hosting a Sundissential special in August. Tuesday to Thursday are student nights with quite cheap drinks and is simply the place to be on a Tuesday if you are in the first year. The entrance is about £3 with NUS, but they are often flyering in the local area and in front of the unions which can gain you free entry. Wahey! Friday and Saturdays used to be cheese but they seem to be trying to move away from this image with the booking of some named DJ's, Boy George and Allistair Whitehead to name but 2. I'm not sure how well this will work as most 'proper' house fans will not give it a chance, but only time will tell. Entrance is a very reasonable £5 on the weekend, probably one of the cheapest clubs in town, though they make up for this with their rather expensive drinks (£2.50 a pint), but this is probably to be expected. It's open til 2.30 during the week and 4 at the weekend. Overall I would reccomend this club for not too serious clubbers who are out for a laugh, the student night can also be quite good as you'll know loads of people there. The special events are also good for more serious clubbers, but can be pricey so you better start saving now!

- 16/07/02 I'm reading reviews on Majestics as part of my ongoing research of rare lasers in clubs. You mentioned "green" ones reflecting onto the ceilings of the main room.
I am yet to hit Majestics but I was informed that the laser(s) are multicoloured (like in DNA, Birmingham) |
