Advantages: great music, good value, great location

Disadvantages: creeps on the pull!

Famous for their Renaissance night (although they no longer have it as it's moved to London), Media is an amazing venue and boasts having amazing one-off events like the Damage gig in March last year as well as newer more popular nights now.

It is a converted theatre, and therefore has a huge main auditorium as well as a variety of other rooms including a blue room, a VIP lounge and a multi-media games room. This is brilliant for restless people like me who want to play games one minute and then dance the next.

There isn't much seating in the club, but this doesn't matter to me as I don't sit down once I'm there unless I'm playing in the Games room (they have a Dreamcast!). However this may be a sore point with 'wallflowers' so it's worth knowing that you're not likely to be able to get a seat in this club.
Just be careful when you’re going up and down the stairs- I’ve not fallen yet although I’ve walked straight into the metal staircase.

Unfortunately drinks are very pricy, I'd suggest going to Redback Bar next door before coming in. Redback Bar isn't the best bar but its cheap (bottles from a £1). I mean if the aim is getting drunk what does it matter?!
I've paid £3.30 for a bottle of Smirnoff Ice which is ridiculous.

Recently Media has changed owners and I'm extremely sad that my favourite Thursday night 'Satellite' no longer exists. I'm not the only one not impressed with the inferior replacement called 'Mother'. As the changes in the nights are quite major I'll quickly go through the nights.

Monday- 'Come Play'
*********************************************
Monday nights are 'Come Play' where entry is £3 before 11 £4 afterwards. The music begins with a lot of R'n'B, dance and the odd bit of cheese. However I do feel that the price is a bit high for a standard student night. r>Kiss Kiss -the previous student night was £2 to get in.

Thursday- 'Mother'
*********************************************
Although it is only £3 to get in before 11 the night doesn't have the brilliant vibe that Satellite did. It is still house music so I don’t want to put people off but the crowd isn't the same. They really need more commercial music otherwise they're quickly going to lose numbers.
Shots of Sambuca are only £1 on this night!

Friday- 'Rhythm'
*********************************************
This night is R'n'B, Soul, Rap and Hip Hop in the main room. Old Skool is in the Blue Room -FAB!!!!
This new night is really popular, and it is actually pretty good. It can be full of townies and fourteen year olds though. Expect to be searched before entry- you've been warned!
Entry is reasonable at £5 before 11, £6 afterwards

Saturday- 'Retro'
*********************************************
Saturday's are now called 'Retro' and still cater for people into house which I'm thankful for. However it's not the same without Renaissance. The changes have only just taken place, so the new night needs time to settle down.

I can't believe I went to the same club four nights in a week. All for the sake of research! Don't say I'm not dedicated to my work ;-)

Anyway it is also in a brilliant location close to a lot of bars and pubs. Check this club out, it has a great atmosphere!!
