Advantages: Bars and clubs are close to each other (within walking distance)

Disadvantages: Over-priced, Fights and trouble,

I have lived in Guildford all my life and clubbing is nothing like it used to be.

There are 3 main clubs in Guildford.

****HARPERS NIGHTCLUB****
Harpers formally known as The Drink which is situated on the main road just down from the train station (less than 5 minute walk).

Harpers is open Monday, Thursday, Fridays and Saturday nights. They play a large range of music such as Electro House, Disco Fever, Hip Hop and R 'n' B. They also recently opened a roof-top bar called the Caz Bar which is an open smoking terrace. It's a great idea for the summer, and you can relax on the chairs and sofa-beds outside whilst enjoying the sunshine and music.

They also have VIP area which is frequently visited by celebs. . .apparently!

Ladies can join to be a member of the club which entitles you to get free entry before 11pm on certain nights and you will also be notified by post what events are coming up, etc. Unfortunately this is only for the woman not men!

It is quite pricey to go into this club, unless you go in before 10pm when its free entry otherwise if you go in after 11pm, you will have to pay up to £12 just for entry! Drinks are rather pricey as well, I paid £2.50 for a bottle of water which was smaller than a standard bottle.

Door-men are very strict there and no matter how old you look, you will only be allowed in, if you have some ID! This is no joke, I know someone who was in their 30's and they were balding and because they didn't have ID they got refused entry.

The club itself is quite big as Harpers is the main club, but you can also go downstairs into the Voodoo Lounge, which play different music so its nice that you can choose between the 2 rooms.

This club was in the local news-paper a few weeks about having to have their license re-newed as there has been a lot of allegations about the door-staff and about CCTV footage going missing!

It's a large club and is a good atmosphere if you don't mind paying a small fortune to get in there and drink in there!

***FLARES***
This is situated on the same road as Harpers but is closer to the train station. They are open 6 nights a week (not on Sunday's), and as you can guess they play 70's and 80's music all night long.

Monday nights are only £2 to get into the club and Tuesday and Wednesdays are free.

Thursday nights they have offer's on cocktails and is also only £2 to get in after 10:30pm.

Friday is Grease night and entry is £4 after 11pm.

Saturdays is £4 to get in after 11pm and is apparently the best party in town!

They have a light up dance-floor like real traditional 80's style, and you can buy wigs, cow-boy hats and star sunglasses from the bar!

Every hour on the hour the staff from the club get up on stage and dance to a song, you can join in and the best dancer normally gets a free bottle of champagne!

You can also book hen, stag or birthday parties here as well.

I have been here a few times but the music isn't really to my taste and it's a much older crowd here, some-where I might expect to see my parents, so I avoid this place as much as I can!

****DUSK****
Formally known as Time and is situated on North Street where the main shops are which runs parallel to Guildford High Street.

They are open Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights until 3pm. This club has 3 bars and a VIP area with leather sofas you can hire out, but please note this is very pricey and will set you back about £300 just for the night, and in my opinion is so not worth it!

Saturday nights are meant to be over 21's only, but I don't think they are too bothered about this and as long as you have ID saying you are 18, I don't think you'll have any problems getting into the club.

This club is a lot cheaper than Harpers and will only set you back the most £6 if you go in after 11pm.

They play Hip Hop, R 'n'B and a mixture of other different music depending what night you go there.

Its quite a small club and sometime it can get very hot and hard to move in here. Drinks are cheaper in here and they normally have deals on drinks if you go in there before 10pm or 11pm, although its not worth going in here until after 11pm when its much busier!

I have seen many fights in this club, some of which people have had their nose broken, but I think they now have a better door-team and seem to handle it a lot more better then they used to.

There was an article in the local newspaper a few months back reporting how many times police were called to this night-club because of trouble there.

***OVERALL OPINION***
I actually tend to stay in one of the Bar's (Bar Med) until they close at 1:30am, by which time I want to go home anyway, so I don't really go clubbing much in Guildford anymore.

Summary: Over-priced club prices and over-priced drink prices in this town!!

Only celeb story I know from Harpers is that it's where Cheryl Cole (then Tweedy) got arrested for her little racist assault on a freshen up lady! xx
