Advantages: Lots of different places, good music
Disadvantages: samey DJS, Drinks are pricey
Oceana nightclub in Southampton is the biggest and newest club in our area. It was built in 2008 and replaced 4 other nightclubs/bars that were in the Leisure world complex in Southampton.
There are many Oceana nightclubs in the UK including some big cities such as Birmingham, Brighton, Leeds etc.
Oceana is made up of 4 different parts. They are The bar quarter, The Reykjavik Icehouse, New York disco and Louisiana. Each part offers something different for everyone and have various age limits.
* The bar quarter *
The bar quarter is described as the "main hub" of the nightclub. The age limit is Over 18s and is free entry at all times.
There are 3 bar areas in the quarter. Which are Milan, Monte Carlo and Villa Tahiti.
Each offer something different, you can relax on sofas or sun loungers. Have a drink, chat to friends and listen to the resident DJ before going to one of the night clubs in the complex or just spend the night here.
* Louisana "
(Over 18's)
This area replaced the old Jumpin Jaks nightclub and to be fair it hasn't changed much at all apart from a lick of paint. All of the dancers and DJs are all the same and they play the same old music as always.
They have a large stage in this area where they offer live music sometimes, the Louisana dancers do the odd performance and also they allow clubbers to dance on the stage.
The music is usually cheese but is always good fun in there. Unfortunately it doesn't get as busy as some of the other areas.
* The Reykjavik Icehouse *
(over 18's)
The ice house can be found upstairs and is the biggest clubbing area with the biggest dance floor.
Here they play a mixture of dance, rnb and house. Unfortunately if you go clubbing every weekend it can get a little bit samey but the DJ is very good and always pulls a large crowd.
The dance floor in the middle is illuminated by pale blue colour which is to give the impression of an icy atmosphere but i personally don't like this, i think a nightclub should be dark and i find it far too light in there.
The bars are around the outside of the dance floor and there are always plenty of staff to serve you.
There is plenty of seating around the outside including some comfy leather sofas etc. There are also small areas called "booths" that you can hire if you have a special occasion for a number of people, this will be reserved for you all night then.
Upstairs there is a VIP area where you can hire your own area for a special occasion. These areas look right down over the dance floor. They can be quite expensive but i think if there is quite a few of you, you can negotiate on the cost.
* New york disco *
(Over 25's)
New york disco is exclusively for the over 25's.
They play a lot of 80's and 90's music in here and is a little bit cheesy but if you want to get away from all the 18 year olds its a great place to hang out.
Apparently they boast Europe's largest illuminated Saturday night fever dance floor. Which is great to dance on.
Around the outside is the bar and also again some comfy seating area with small booths you can hire for the night.
* Prices *
Friday night:
Free entry to all night clubs
Saturday:
Before 10.30pm FREE
After 10.30pm:
Going through Disco to give you access to the whole complex: £7
Going through icehouse giving you access to icehouse and louisana: £6
Louisana only: £5
Bar quarter is always free.
When entering your hand is stamped with the name of the club you entered and on each door is a bouncer checking the stamps.
Drink prices vary on different nights, but they are very average for a nightclub (stupidly expensive)
Oceana is my favourite place for a Saturday night and i do rate it quite highly. But as i mentioned before it does get a bit samey and it would be great if they could have some more well known DJS coming in.
The place is always clean and its had a LOT of money spent on it so its very well looked after.
Summary: A great place for a night out
