best in town, lots of seats, great music to dance to, good door staff for safety..

A crowd of us girls from work went into PJ's last saturday night. One of our number was leaving work cos she is pregnant and we wanted to give her a good send off, although she could'nt drink, we could!! We were invited up to the VIP lounge which was great. You still hear the music so feel part of whats going on downstairs, the more agile of us were up and down to have a dance, and the bar staff were very friendly and helpful mixing our pregnant friend a few none alcoholic cocktails which made her feel very special. Personaly, I always judge a place by their toilets, PJ's are clean enough, thought not as clean as they used to be! Change you cleaners maybe!!! Anyway we all had a great night out, one to remember, thanks PJ's you were great and we'll be back again. great boss!

Being a student in Warrington at the moment we have to make a most of the nightlife offered. To be honest most of the time I do prefer to pay extra and head out to Manchester or Liverpool for a more livelier night but when I can’t afford the extra taxi trip I will settle for what Warrington has to offer. Now, on Bridge Street is where most of the clubs are in Warrington they all are within walking distance so that is what makes it a lot better here if you want to go somewhere different. A place that most people tend to go to is the club Panama Jacks (PJ’s to the locals); it is a place people either love or hate but I don’t mind going here because you get a good mix of music.

So as you walk outside of PJ’s you can usually see inside the club and on Friday and Saturday nights there is always a long queue outside here which does sometimes move quickly depending on who is on the door. On Tuesday night which is student night it is just as busy because all of the people from the university are usually out. To get in on a Tuesday is free but normally at the weekend it is £2 which to me is nothing coming from a city but if you are lucky sometimes the people at the door won’t charge you and you get in free.

As you walk in you are always greeted with loud music and a busy atmosphere. To the right when you walk in are little booths if you want to sit and seats at the bar and to the left is the dance floor where the ultraviolet lights are. There are some seats over there too but most people stand around this bit as there are tables. The actual dance floor is a smallish bit to the back but its good enough although the bouncer is really funny about letting people passed with drinks in their hand so you have to finish your drink before going to the dance floor or like most you can just dance in the open standing part like everyone else does.

In here they usually play a wide variety of music which I like it, you have your usual chart stuff but then they play some random dance songs and then R&B or some older tracks. I have been in here and sometimes they do R&B hour and they will just play that music style then they will play popular dance songs, then they will play pop songs and sometimes I have even had S Club 7 songs played which is always quite fun and then they have their rap music as well so it’s pretty much anything and also the odd time they might play some indie too. They usually play something for everyone but if you’re not happy you can go ask the DJ for a song 9 times out of 10 he will usually play it and he will do announcements too.

What I like about PJ’s is they always try and liven the place up to make a party. At Halloween they had a Halloween party and decorated it all inside which made quite a good atmosphere but they also do a School Disco night quite often and if you wear uniform you get cheaper drinks. Also at St Patrick’s Day it was great in here they played a mix of chart and Irish stuff and again everything was all decorated. If you look on the screens around the club they are always advertising upcoming nights so you just need to look out for what’s going on.

So being served at the actual bar well this all depends how lucky you are. Usually I can be served quickly but one thing I have tended to notice here is that the female staff sometimes will take about ten minutes to serve you because they tend to serve the male customers over female customers first which does really annoy me. Also they see you standing there and proceed to serve someone from the other side of the bar. Usually though I am quite lucky and get served quickly I usually just push in because if you stand there nicely and wait you will be there all night.

The cost of drinks is not bad in here it really depends on the night you go. On a Tuesday night the VK’s which are alcopops only cost £1.50 and shots are £1 but on a Saturday night the alcopops are £3 and the shots £1.50 so it’s all to do with when you go. It still isn’t too expensive considering what other places charge it’s just really about the same as the average bar.

The toilets in PJ’s are up the stairs and are where you find a lot of drunk people. Most of the toilet doors in the ladies toilets when I first used to go here were not there or there were only two with locks but since then most have had locks and toilet doors put back on so it is much better. The lighting is always dim and they aren’t in the cleanest state ever but I have been to worse clubs. Sometimes a lady is working in here and will pass you a paper towel to clean your hands. The actual sinks and mirrors are in an ok condition though so it isn’t too bad.

The staff at PJ’s are all friendly enough. The bar staff aren’t the friendliest ever but the bouncers on the door are all chatty and up for a laugh which does make a change. A few times I have been in this club a few fights have started out which did worry me a bit as Warrington has been known to be quite rough and there are always a lot of police patrolling at night. However usually within seconds the bouncers are at the fight and throwing the troublemakers out and then everyone gets back to having fun again so it is well looked after.

One thing which makes PJ’s fun is that they always go around with a camera taking photos of everyone who goes and they will do a big group shot and everyone is ridiculous and pushes each other to make it in the photo. I have had my photo on the website a few times and it’s always a nice reminder of the night out but sometimes the photos are horrible. Also once or twice I have seen my photo displayed on the TV screens around the club which if they are not displaying photos taken they are displaying information on certain nights or offers on drinks.

To retrieve your pictures you go to the website http://www.panamajacks.co.uk which is where you’ll find them but you have to click Warrington as they have clubs in nearby towns. The website doesn’t really have a lot of information on it. I’d say if you are in Warrington you should go in here, I know that when Kerry Katona used to live here she went in a lot, not that that’s really a selling point. It’s a fun, cheap night out and if you like a club which plays a mixture of everything with up to the minute music then this is the place to be.
