Dec 31st, 2001. First time at a Ripsnorter Party, first time at The Depot, first time clubbing in Bristol. And what a good decision it turned out to be... The quality of the mixes, the friendliness of the people, the sense of occasion, three music rooms to choose from... I felt like I'd come home and have been to every Ripsnorter in Bristol since. Planning on the next London one and looking forward to the Summer boat trip parties. Just bought tickets for the first. Ripsnorter are experimental. From Hard House beginnings they are branching out in various directions while keeping in touch with their roots. There's a big regular following and strong sense of "family". The promoters/DJs are acessible and friendly (if very busy "on the night"). Never known it packed so you can't dance freely but never so thin on the ground that there's no atmosphere. Capacity of the Depot around 750. Drinks around pub prices. Free tap water. Cloakroom (no idea how much -- I never bother with it -- but never heard anyone grumbling). Efficient door staff so queues seldom more than 5 mins. Discrete security on all floors. Cafe and pool hall on top level. Cafe, pool and chillout music next door afterwards. Ripsnorter roughly monthly at The Depot. Highly recommended. Brings a big grin to my face just thinking about them.
