Rock City is the UKs best alternative live music venue and club. It is an all standing venue for gigs with a capacity of 2450. The venue is divided in to three rooms (Main Hall, The Basement and the Rig) which have a total of five bars. There are currently 14+ and 18+ events. They are very strict on checking ID. Inside they have a cash machine and a cloak room which costs £1.50 per item.

There are car parks very close by which charge around £3.60 for 3 hours and £5 for 4 hours. Rock City is also easy to get to from the train station.

All gigs are listed on their website with links of where to buy the ticket. They have some very good top bands at this venue. Occasionally they have all nighters and these are normally around Christmas and New Year.

They have club nights on most nights of the week and these are:

Tuned on a Thursday which is a student club night where they play rock, drum and bass, indie and hip hop.

Love Shack on a Friday which is a 90s club night. It is free to get in before 11pm and selected drinks are £1.50 all night. They also play 60s, 70s and 80s music.

Distortion which is every Saturday 10pm - 3am and has been voted the best alternative club by Kerrang. They have offers on drinks that are bought before 1am.

Reloaded is on, on a Saturday in The Rig. Classic Rock is played all night.

Nailed is also on Saturday in the basement playing metal music.

Damage Inc is on the first Thursday of every month. It is a night where they play metal music.

Their under 18s night is on a Sunday and costs £4 in advance or £6 on the door.

I really enjoy going to this venue for a gig because it is quite small so I can get close to the band and prices are not bad. It can get very busy and so gets very hot and you can find yourself being squashed. The all nighters are also great and are normally on for ten hours between 8pm and 6am. The queues are normally quite long so you might be waiting a while to get in.
