Strata can be found at 45 Queen Street and has been open for about a year. the first thing that you notice is the impressive design of the bar - a giant isobar chart swirls across the main wall. The urge to impersonate John Kettly has never been stronger. Unlike many bars in the city Strata has large windows which look out onto Queens street. This can lead to a slight goldfish bowl feel when you are eating but other than that it provides a nice natural light glow which is all too rare in Glasgow bars. Food is available and is from the adventurous side of the bar grub range. I usually settle for the pasta but there is a wide choice including monkfish and scallops. If you are intending to eat there then I would recommend you go early - after about seven the place starts to fill up and it can be a wee bit claustrophobic to be sitting eating amongst the preclub crowd. If you really have to eat after seven then cross the road to IchiBan the noodles bar. With Archaos ten yards down the road Strata is perfect for a preclub bevvy. Drinks are around the 2 quid to 2.50 mark (standard for Glasgow) and the clientele are a relaxed, happy bunch. Not a crazy place to drink but you will feel comfortable and there is never any hint of trouble. Lots of good looking people to talk to as well. I'd give it an 8 out of 10.
