Subway is the basement part of the club called EQ where the club night called Subversion used to take place every friday night.
These days Subversion is in Subway on the first friday of the month and upstairs in EQ for the rest of the month. I guess this is due to the popularity of the club night because Subway is a tiny place which gets extremely packed with moshers.
There's a good atmosphere down there, with trippy UV paintings on the walls. Unfortunately the walls end up dripping with sweat as well because it gets so hot down there.
EQ is the bigger club and it's only really good if there are lots of people which is usually the case now alternative music is popular. But up here there's more room to dance and it doesn't get as hot as downstairs.

So what's on the playlist? The DJ Pete Scathe runs quite a few club nights in the South East and Subversion is one that plays a variety. This is his Music Policy (from his website http://www.scathe.demon.co.uk/subnews.htm):

Alternative Rock: Nirvana, Chili Peppers, Faith No More, Silverchair, At The Drive In, QOTSA etc.

Metal/Nu-Metal: Limp Bizkit, Korn, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Slipknot, System of a Down, Deftones, Coal Chamber, Marilyn Manson, Fear Factory, Sepultura, Incubus, A Perfect Circle etc.

Punk/Ska: Green Day, Blink 182, Offspring, Operation Ivy, Rancid, Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, Spunge, Capdown, Mad Caddies, Goldfinger etc

Hip Hop: I play a reasonable amount of the harder hip-hop (Beasties, Dre, Eminem, Wu Tang) and rock/rap crossover.

Industrial: NIN, Rammstein and the like, but not "pure industrial" stuff

Goth: I occasionally play goth bands at Subversion, but tend to concentrate on bands with more of a metal appeal like Type O Negative or Marilyn Manson which I don't usually play at Resurgence.

Big Beat: Occasionally I play something like Prodigy or the Chemical Brothers, but not a gr
eat deal of it.

They tend to start off with goth and industrial music so I prefer not to get there too early (but get in before 11pm cos it's cheaper). Then they play nu/metal and punk which is when everyone goes crazy. I love the mixture of music and people and the fact there's no dress code unlike the trendy clubs.

Drinks are not cheap, beer and bottled drinks are just under £3 so it's a good idea to get drunk before you go (but not so drunk that you pass out like my mate!). They do give out free tap water and ice which is a relief from the heat and dehydration.

They are strict on who they let in so take ID to prove you're over 18 (I'm 20 and I STILL get ID'd - ARGH!!!!). Having said that, I did get chatted up by a 15 year old so maybe they're just strict letting me in!
