Advantages: Great music, good fun, cheap
Disadvantages: Advertised bill can be wrong
I have been to the Blue Mountain more times than I can remember in the past four years. Every time I return to Bristol, it is on the top of my list for clubs to visit. The club is split into two floors, the downstairs usually providing the main action (whatever that might be) and the upstairs typically offering an apt accompaniment. There is also an outside balcony for anyone needing to cool down a bit. The Blue Mountain provides the basis for many different club nights catering for various styles ranging from hip-hop to funk to dub to drum and bass although I have also been to a techno night there as well (many years ago). The main weekly events are Blowpop, a big-beaty style thing on alternate Saturdays and Chocolate City, a funky-style thing on the other Saturdays. As well as top-class resident DJs, most clubs nights will feature a live act. Recent acts have been The Mad Professor, The Scratch Perverts, The Infesticons, The Herbaliser, DJ Shadow and A Guy Called Gerald. All this top music action is complemented by cheap drinks, a laid-back atmosphere, friendly staff and lots of people having fun.

- 09/03/01 liquidsky - I have never been to Cardiff although people in Bristol do talk more of its shopping facilities than its nightlife, suggesting that Bristol might be better for things to do. The latest most clubs stay open until is around 5 or 6 and they have usually got pretty quiet by then anyway. Still, if you want to hang around until the morning, there are quite a few 24 hour cafes around the city. If you have anywhere to stay, that would be best - or you could move to Bristol... |

- 04/03/01 As I live in Cardiff, do u think it's possible to go to Bristol, have a fab night there, get pissed and all, and come back to Cardiff on the next morning. Or do you recogn I should stay in Bristol for the night? Bristol is much bigger and has more to do, right? |
