**Introduction**

For my latest review I wanted to do something a little different so I requested this venue to review on dooyoo as I wanted to tell everyone on here about one of my favourite local music venues. 61 High Street, Taunton has had many different names over the years with the last two names being Mamba and Bar 61. The Perfect 5th was the new name and has been going for a few months now. So here is my review of The Perfect 5th.

**Where is it?**

The Perfect 5th is situated on Taunton's High Street and is in between The Body Shop and Burger King. It's within walking distance of a number of bars where people start their night out. These include Piano and Pitcher, Coal Orchard and Perkin Warbeck. I tend to go to either Coal Orchard or The Perkin Warbeck before I we make our way over to Perfect 5th or some other place like Dellers, Mambo or maybe Shout.

**Music Venue**

The main thing The Perfect 5th is known for is it's Live Music. Although a it's a small venue it features excellent sound and lighting equipment. There are two levels at the Venue, Upstairs is basically a cafe/bar and downstairs you will find the stage for all the bands. One thing I like about the venue is the eclectic range of music which is both played upstairs and performed by the bands downstairs.

**Events**

The Perfect 5th are known for putting on a wide variety of events during the week. There are regular events happening on certain days.

WEDNESDAY'S 20:00 - 00:00

Every wednesday there is an Acoustic Night where they have three or four acoustic artists. The artists are usually from around Somerset but some are from further away than that.

THURSDAY'S 20:30 - 00:30

Thursday's are for unsigned bands to show what they are about. I have been to quite a few of these nights and you tend to get a couple of good bands but then some that you just don't get.

FRIDAY'S 21:00 - 02:00

Friday's can be different than the other nights, They usually have a Club night with a couple of guest djs but they sometimes have a couple of Live Bands with one supporting the main act.

SATURDAY'S 21:00 - 03:00

On Saturday's they have the same kind of thing as on Friday's where they alternate between a Club night with guest DJ's and a couple of Live Bands. The bands tend to be known on the circuit.

SUNDAY'S 19:00 - 00:00

They have an interesting lineup on Sunday's, This is where people can come with their own instruments and perform, you can also come just to watch. It's free entry on the door for all. This is a great way of spotting new talent.

**DJ Nights**

Whilst the Club nights at The Perfect 5th don't have the reputation that Shout and Dellers have it is still a decent place to be for club nights. I Have been there when the club night has been on and there have been loads of people there even though it's rather small compared to other clubs. The DJ's tend to get a good reputation from the crowd.

**The Cafe/Bar**

During the day the Perfect 5th is open as a cafe, It's also a licensed bar and is open up to and during the performances downstairs. The Cafe has a good selection of food ranging from Panini's and Baggeutes to Lasagne and Chicken Caesar Salad or Salmon Fish cakes. As you would expect there is also a good range of alcoholic drinks although prices are typically quite a bit more expensive than most places around but there are some good drinks deals to be had in The Perfect 5th.

**Overall**

I think The Perfect 5th is a fantastic venue for live music and generally just having a good night out. It appeals to a wide range of people due to the wide variety of music and events going on. If you live near Taunton then why not go for a night out in Taunton and visit The Perfect 5th. A great venue that should keep 61 High Street, Taunton occupied for sometime to come fingers crossed.
