Haven't been to the phoenix since they charged us an astronomical rate to put on local underground djs and artists. As in the rest of Manchester clubland profit drives music policy, or rather the short term profit that attracts the undiscerning student masses who will pay £16-00 to see Dave Clarke and would wear a plastic duck on their head if they saw posh wearing one in mixmag.

They used to ( and frankly I have no interest in returning to see if the situation has improved)employ speeding steroid chomping Salford laards on the door who thought it amusing to batter the clientelle and in some cases the djs.

Don't think I have a grudge against the Phoenix..many people enjoy gurning and sweating the over priced night away to a cheap system that cuts out every ten seconds, a slippy stinky beer drenched floor and warm water only in the toilets...

The Phoenix is typical of the poor quality, uninspired, unimaginative, commercial and student orientated music policy of all the city's clubs...We've been fleeced by most of them, by far the worst was "The Park" who fleeced me for £150,provided worse than crap equipment and unknown to us in the dj box shut the doors at midnight as "Lenny" the owner , already had the money in his sweaty little palm, and didn't want to pay the door staff. I was also intimidated to turn the music off before our small group had finished. The experience persuaded me never to put on a night in Manchester again...After all I don't wear a Kangol hat, come from Cheshire, have a rich Daddy to buy my gear, no talent, and my tongue up Eastern Block's **se,.

The club owners are greedy uncultured macho t**ts, the clientelle for the most part, undiscerning gurners who would dance to a biscuit tin full of ball bearings if Carl Cox was playing, and frankly none of 'em deserve the most original and progressive music to come out of this city since ..well ever.

The Finge
r of Funk points an Impudent Digit at Manchester Club seen (it all before...).

I've been loads of times (I live round the corner), I can't fault it! I'd give it another try if I was you, things may have changed. Try Sinergy for a really good night with a great atmosphere!

hehe - me and my friends used to do Fridays there about 5 years ago. It was full of gurners then (but in a good way). And the door staff were cool.
