The Ritz (Manchester)
Advantages: Big venue - good well established club nights.
Disadvantages: You need to check what is on before you venture here, because you could end up disappointed.
The Ritz used to be an old ballroom that is now a night club. The venue is located on Whitworth Street West and it attracts a completely different crowd, depending on the event that is being held.
On a Monday night you will find alternative music being played - and a crowd that are really into rock, metal and Goth music. On a Wednesday The Ritz host the "Love Train" night, where the theme is music from the 60's and 70's and the crowd is very mixed - some of my friends call this "grab a granny night" because there are lots of older men and women in here - as well a younger crowd. On a Saturday there is a student night on, you won't be able to get in without an NUS card and this certainly isn't a night for the faint hearted - think lap dancers and wet t-shirt competitions.
Live acts also play here sporadically. Over the year's famous bands such as The Happy Mondays, The Smiths and the Stone Roses have performed live. It is a good, intimate venue for bands, because there is a stage in the middle of the venue and it's worth keeping an eye of The Ritz website to ensure that you don't miss your favourite live acts.
The Ritz is quite a fairly big venue (as far as night clubs go) - it has two large bars, a big dance floor, a stage and a cloakroom. On busy nights it is very easy to lose people, so make sure you and your mates all have your mobile phones with you.
The drinks prices depend on the event that is taking place and the admission prices also vary.
I'd say that if you fancy checking The Ritz out, then you should make sure that you check what event is taking place first, because the entertainment in here is really varied. Four out of five stars.
Summary: A great night out... if you time it right.
