Advantages: City centre location which is excellent for transport, cheap drinks, awesome CD fairs.
Disadvantages: Bad Acoustics, VERY bad acoustics
...because that is what you will be dancing around all night!
Southampton Guildhall - venue for many, many gigs in the South ranging from the likes of Stereophonics and Placebo to ABBA Gold a tribute to ABBA and BBC Music Live Festival.
I won't complain too much because if the Guildhall wasn't there then I would have to travel further afield to see the bands BUT, and that is big BUT, why oh why is Southampton Guildhall used for gigs when it must have the worst acoustics in Britain!
The carpet and high ceiling do not help matters one little bit. Decent bands can be made to sound appalling by these factors.
Onto the good points! (Yes there are some!)
There are two bars leading directly out of the main hall - one on either side! The prices are cheap! £1.50 for apint of lager! I was very impressed!
There are also regular CD fairs at the Guidhall! One a month and a huge one every couple of months!
The Guidhall is in the town centre and under a five minute walk from both Southampton Central train station and the city bus station.
I must give you a warning that it is an uphill walk of around 400 metres from the station - hence a 5 min walk! I know Iwan Thomas (ha ha yes Southampton does have a fine athlete living in its midst!) could make it under a minute, but for the more relaxed of us this may take slightly longer!
Prices vary according to event.
