Advantages: large, nice decor, different music styles
Disadvantages: out the way, not enough seats
The Warehouse is one of the older clubs in Leeds, it is situated in the heart of the office disctrict in the centre of town and can be quite hard to find if you don't know where you're looking. Anyway, once you've found the club it's not much to look at from the outside, it could certainly do with a paint job, despite the shabby exterior the new owners of the Warehouse (po na na) have recently spent 2 months doing up the inside so now it looks amazing. When you walk in you are instantly thrust into the large (club capacity 900), airy main room, on the side of the dancefloor, on the left there are stairs up to the second room and at the back of the room is the bar. Arranged around the sides of the room there are a limited number of seats, though unless you get there very early you are unlikely to get them. The DJ box is situated at the front of the dancefloor on a raised platform in the centre, this allows you to see the 'master' at work from all over the room, and also allows the DJ to feed off the crowd and see their reaction to the tunes very easily. There is also a stage to the left of the DJ box which has different things on depending on the night. Sometimes there are live acts, sometimes live percussion and sometimes it's free to dance like a loon on. The toilets are situated upstairs, just before the second room, which is a chillout bar. There is usually a seperate DJ up there spinning some laid back grooves and there are some more seats and a large bar for those that can't hack the pace in the main room. The warehouse has 3 regular nights, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and is also often open during the week with a wide range of nights, so look out for flyers and posters around the city. The 3 regular nights are: Thursday - Tequila, long running student night where cheap drinks are the order of the day. They often have themes such as doctors and nurses and these are
well publiscised around the Leeds campus. The music policy is strictly cheese. £3 Friday - new r n' b night, this replaces Sid Fox (techno) and has only just started so I don't have any more information on it. £? Saturday - Speed Queen, even longer running gay/mixed funky house night, not for the faint hearted, you'll see all sorts here. £10 The drinks are quite cheap £1.50 a pint and they have different promotions each night, so it doesn't have to be too expensive, though the entrance can be pricey. Overall I think they put on a good range of nights and the venue is great, though a bit more seating would be nice, get yourself down there.

- 26/03/02 As a student in Leeds, the Warehouse is often overlooked in place of the larger clubs such as Majestyk and Creation. However, Warehouse is a good club, although a little small for my liking. Well worth a visit. |
