      Had a great time

We go to the Viking Hotel for the xmas party night and I think it is a fantastic night, it costs about £70 but for that you get bed, breakfast and 5 course party dinner. You have to be in your seats for your meal at 7-30 - 8pm and the waiters and waitresses all run around trying to serve everyone their meals which is a bit chaotic but good fun, the meal is very nice and quite hot under the circumstances, you just sort of pick which starter and meal you want as they are rushing by, it's a strange system but it seems to work.
They have dancers a singer and a brilliant comedian called buddy lee (I think that was his name) I did have a lot of wine that night. If you are unlucky enough to have a table at the front the comedian will pick on you but it's all good fun, especially if you have a table at the back where it is safe. After all the acts have finished it's a disco until about 2pm, It is open to anyone to come in from outside with a door charge, but it is nice to crawl into bed at the end of the night without relying on taxis etc.
The Viking belongs to the chain of hotels called Choice Hotels and therefore it is free to go to the Cliffs or the Claremont to use their pool and Jacuzzi which is what we like to do each year, give it a try this Christmas, we go with all the family and we have such a brilliant time, we have tried the Cliffs and Claremont but we prefer the entertainment at the Viking although the rooms are nicer at the other 2 hotels.

This isn't the place for all you young clubbers to go, but it's the perfect spot for those of us who can't handle the club scene the way you do it these days. You won't find the latest dance and club music being played here. The Viking Hotel Night Club is situated mid way between Blackpool's Central and North Piers. The club is actually in the Viking Hotel but you don't have to be resident to use it. Entrance is just £3.50 and drinks prices are reasonable in comparison with the other pubs and bars in Blackpool. This place gets very busy (usually full of the 35 plus set!) so it's adviseable to book yourself a table in advance. There is seldom any sort of disturbance at this club and this is partly because of the age of the people it attracts and partly to the fact that the compere always requests that everyone considers other club goers and behaves accordingly. (Now, how would this go down in a club that caters for the younger set? I'd love to see someone try to make an announcement like that.) Entertainment is of the usual Blackpool type and there are lesser known singers and groups and what I would call 'second rate' comedians. However, I must admit that the entertainment is good value for the money you pay to go in. The atmosphere is rather like what you would find at a 'Working Mens Club'. One night here was enough for me although the group I was with opted to go again, I found other things to amuse myself with. It was too smokey and hot for me and there were too many people who could hardly stand by the time the entertainment finished and they started playing music.

The Viking Hotel Night-club This is situated on the promenade in between Central and North Pier and a great night out. You do not have to be staying at the Viking Hotel but it is free entrance if you are a resident. The entrance fee of £3.50 is very reasonable and the drinks are not too expensive. It is wise to book a table because it is a popular club and what I like about it is that they never have any trouble there. The compere always starts the show by asking people to behave so that everyone can enjoy themselves and that is what a good night out is all about. The compere always gets the audience going with a few jokes, typical Blackpool entertainment and then you see a group or comedian. Little and Large called in for a quick turn and Jim Bowen the night that I was there so you do get to see some good acts for your money. They were advertising their latest video mind you at a price of £6.99 but you weren’t forced to buy one. After the show a disco is put on for those party animals that don’t want to go home, I was one of them. All in all this is a nice club I had a great evening out I felt safe and I enjoyed myself that much I booked to go the following night as well.
