Cookworks XQ663 Filter Coffee Maker
by rks985 The coffee maker is relatively well made although it is your usual plastics that we are all used to with the majority of kettles. The main thing that pulled us towards its purchase is the fact that it has a permanent coffee filter so no need to buy papers. The unit itself fits well between cupboards and uses about as much room as a ... kettle so its not really a big obtrusive machine. Its anti drip function enables you to remove the jug before the end of the cycle but be careful because it will still drip a little, probably the steam in the middle of the process. The cups work out as 10 cup capacity I have found this equals to 4 1/2 standard sized mugs, the keep warm function enables you to just fill and sip which is brilliant if you are on the go alot. Its not the lowest power cunsumption machine and not the worst. It's certainly okay for the average person/ small family. Read the complete review |

Cookworks XQ663 Filter Coffee Maker
by cheryl38 A standard coffee machine by cookworks that cost less than 10 pounds!! i saw this coffee machine on offer and thought i'd buy it as i'd never had one before and was keen to try it out and for the price what a bargain i got. cookworks are reliable and cheap ive never had any complaints with anything i have bought of theirs. very easy to ... use instructions, simply by putting the required amount of coffee into the permanent filter (that comes with coffee machine)and filling up the water container which holds up to eight cups of water and switching it on. coffee filters in to glass jug which is quite sturdy this sits on the hotplate that keeps your coffee warm for up to an hour. i personally like the twinings coffee not to strong there is alot of different varities to choose from. filter coffee is alot stronger than instant. nothing like a good strong coffee in the mornings. Cookworks XQ663 Filter Coffee Maker
by Donf18 Intro I likes my cakes, and I likes me biscuits, but neither me any of my standards if they are not supported by a cup of good coffee. I usually drink Kenco Rapport instant coffee which I find very nice and more than acceptable even with a cake or biscuit, but it is the good filter coffee that's makes either sweet taste so ... much better. There are vary grades and types of filter coffee and I guess as with most drinks its all a matter of taste. My current preference is Dow Egberts, which I switched to recently, and in all likelihood will switch from sometime in the future in order to keep my coffee experience new. Of course the crucial element in making these delicious coffees is a coffee maker. I only have two or three of the filter coffees over the period of a week so there was no need to go splashing out tons of cash which was only going to result n the coffee maker being used so little. Cookworks I have had many Cookworks products over the years and the main reason I continue to purchase their brand is reliability. Most of the products I've had for years and they are still working perfectly with no complaints from me. I purchased this coffee make about a year ago for a modest £14.99 although I have seen it on offer since for cheaper. It has probably now been replaced by a newer model but according to Ebay it is still available. It's a very basic coffee maker with no fancy frother; it has a hotplate, which actually keeps coffee hotter than some more expensive brands. I am led to believe though that the reason some brands do not keep the coffee piping hot is because it is thought to impair the flavour. Best served just short of boiling. I suppose looking at some of the more modern coffee makers this would be considered quite large, but it does look quite smart being mostly black with the odd piece of clear here and there. The large water container holds eight decent cups and if you so desire you can make this quantity, however using so much water I feel does significantly reduce the strength of the coffee produced. I rarely go above four cups and find that this produces a rather nice strength of brew. You could of course use more coffee but unless you plan to drink it all that would be very wasteful. In the past I've had problems with the jug being too fragile, but I have found this one has taken a few knocks and is still without any cracks or chips. The filter section of the brewer is reusable being that it is basically a plastic sieve. It is in this section you place your desired choice of coffee blend, the water is heated and passed through this section quite slowly to provide a nice fresh coffee smell and brew. It does take some patience and time to get the desired strength, but it is definitely worthwhile in the end. I think it is best to use less to start with and gradually build up to the preferred brew. I find that in most blends two scoops is sufficient for a reasonably strong brew. Operation of the brewer is simplicity itself, in that all you do is put the desired amount of water in the rear receptacle and the desired amount of coffee in the filter section. Turn on via the main on/off switch on the side and in a few minutes your brew will be ready. In the meantime you will get the odd whiff of coffee, which will psyche you up for your cuppa. The brewed coffee collates in the nice clear glass jug and is kept hot through the thermostatically controlled hot plate. There is no way of adjusting this temperature it is factory set and shall always be so. Summary If you are not a big coffee drinker and just have the odd one now and then this is an ideal unit. That is not to say it isn't suitable for frequent use, just that at this low price it isn't too much to pay for a good fresh coffee. I think a substantial coffee drinker may want to invest in something which gives you more variation in your choice of coffee i.e latte's and the like. I've got absolutely NO complaints about this unit. It has worked of and on and sometimes tirelessly without any problems. A great little investment in my book. Read the complete review |
