Advantages: Drinks are barcoded so exact amount of water is used. Made in seconds.

Disadvantages: Machine costs (£70+), disks (£3+ for around 8 drinks), not the best tasting drinks

I bought our Bosch Tassimo for my partner from Argos a couple of week before Christmas as one of her presents - after a month or so of nagging! I paid about £70 for it, and at the time was half price.

Although she came with me when I bought it, sure enough Christmas day it was the first one she opened. It gave her great pleasure opening the box, filling the reservoir with water, placing it on the kitchen top and plugging it in. The satisfaction was strewn allover her face as she put the first of the disks in it to make her first cappucino, followed by mocca, latte and a few other coffees that were drunk Christmas day. As we had guests until early January the Tassimo was used quite regularly, but I reverted very quickly back to normal coffee, or sachets of cappucino.

Sure it was a great little device (with barcodes on each disk controlling the amounts of water to be added) and was quick, but I wasn't keen on the drinks, they lacked taste and got cold very quickly. I really couldn't justify spending over £3 a time for about 8 drinks. My partner soon stopped using it once our guests had gone, and although she doesn't like to admit it, she does feel pretty guilty that she'd asked me to buy it for her, but still it looks good in it's new home - next to the microwave, directly above the bin.

There are a number of different tea, coffee and chocolate varieties to choose from (mainly suchards and kenco), but in my view this is not worth the cost. I can't comment on reliability as it's less than a year old and no longer used, but we never had a problem when we were. In terms of time to make the drinks and clean up afterwards I don't see an awful difference between it and traditional methods. Still, the choice is yours.

Summary: A good idea but is too expensive and not great tasting
