Advantages: Functionally Perfect Machine to use
Disadvantages: The coffee Pods/Milk have an acquired taste
The post man arrives with my new, much coveted Dolce Gusto Nescafe Coffee machine. I ignore the freshly brewed tea on the bench and begin ripping the box open desperate to see what all the fuss is about. My excitement is three fold because I have been lucky enough to receive this coffee machine FREE as part of my role as a Bzzagent whereby I receive free products to use and share with friends and provide feedback.
The machine is extremely well packaged, perhaps a little too much in this age of 'reduce, reuse, recycle'. However, within less than five minutes I have unpacked the machine speed read the instructions and assembled the machine. Assembly involved plugging it in and attaching a drip tray to the front of the machine.
Before using the machine you have to use a rinse tool to clean it. This is very handily already in place so I add some water, press a button and its cleaning. This is just such an easy machine to use and my excitement is growing by the second.
After the rinse cycle is complete I remove the rinse tool and insert my first pod inside the pod holder. It takes less than 30 seconds to heat the water up as it only heats what you need rather than a whole canister of water.
I have opted to try a Cappuccino and the aroma of the coffee is lovely. To make the Cappuccino You use two pods, one for milk and then one for coffee. The instruction manual gives clear guidelines on how to prepare every single drink.
The appearance of the Cappuccino is very professional and wouldn't look out of place in a coffee shop. I only wish I had some dusting powder to add to the top. Yummy, come to my tummy!
Alas, this is where the excitement turns to disappointment as I found the actual taste of the coffee not to my liking. The taste of the coffee reminds me of coffee from those machines you sometimes get in service stations where you insert a sachet and it makes a drink for you, I think some work places have them too. If you've never experienced one of these machines the taste is slightly synthetic and the milk tastes dried and there's no escaping the sweet taste of the added sugar you have little choice about.
I proceeded to try the Chococino and found the powdered milk taste and the added sweetener not to my liking. Yet again the aroma and the appearance were fantastic.
I invited my husband to try out the machine when he got home an he tried a Latte Macchiato and he was extremely impressed with the speed of use, aroma and appearance. He was also extremely impressed with the taste of the Latte Macchiato. As it was a drink I had not tried I had a sip to see how it compared to the previous drinks and yet again I was not impressed with the taste. So it really comes down to whether you enjoy the taste of the coffee. To that end I would recommend you try before you buy if possible.
In conclusion this is an excellent looking, functionally perfect machine that provides attractive, professional looking coffee with an acquired taste. There are a variety of coffee pod flavours which are readily available in supermarkets.
