I have just bought one of these eight cup cafetieres from John Lewis, I already have two 6 cup ones and a 2 cup, so you might say I am a convert! However, this latest one will be returned, the quality is not a patch on the old ones I have, (about 15 years old or maybe more). Every part of them says "cut the corners" except for the glass which seems to be the same. The thread on the bottom of the plunger is already crossed and does not tighten securely, comparing it with the original shows it is nowhere near the same quality, the shaft of the plunger is a smaller diameter, the knob on the top is smaller, the chrome bands of the main jug are not ... I much prefer filter coffee to instant, so anyone in the same boat knows that a cafetiere is a must in any kitchen. I purchased the 4 cup cafetiere as I have a space limited kitchen, but more because I thought a 4 cup one would do fine for my needs, and seeing as I make coffee most days, I wanted a cafetiere that I could leave on the work surfaces without taking up too much space (may sound silly, but I really do have minimal space)! Seeing as cafetieres are all pretty much a standard design, I wont bother going into the ins and outs of it! While I do not drink a lot of coffee myself I do like a nice cup of Lyons fresh coffee now and again so invested in a La Cafetiere coffee maker for the odd occasion when I fancy a coffee or if my daughter is visiting. It cost me £25 which I thought was expensive for a cafetiere but this one has definitely proved itself as a very good one. It is a very attractive cafetiere being mostly glass with quite a small amount of chrome making up a pretty 'frame' around the glass jug. I like the lid because the last cafetiere I had had a flat lid and I found it awkward sometimes to prise the top off especially when my arthritis was bad. This one has a dome shaped lid ...
