Disadvantages: ......but without any quality

I have just bought one of these eight cup cafetieres from John Lewis, I already have two 6 cup ones and a 2 cup, so you might say I am a convert!
However, this latest one will be returned, the quality is not a patch on the old ones I have, (about 15 years old or maybe more).
Every part of them says "cut the corners" except for the glass which seems to be the same.
The thread on the bottom of the plunger is already crossed and does not tighten securely, comparing it with the original shows it is nowhere near the same quality, the shaft of the plunger is a smaller diameter, the knob on the top is smaller, the chrome bands of the main jug are not finished anywhere near as well.
The problem is that this may well be the best on the market at the moment, I will have to do some further research.
Having already known this product the re-order was a no brainer I thought, wrong, the bean counters (pun intended) have interferred enough to make me want my money back and to just use the two jugs I have rather than one large one. Poor show, brand leaders being complacent and living on previously well earnt reputation, if this product was another tenner more, so what? If it lasts a lifetime who cares? well, I know who... the bargain hunting penny pinchers who fail to see the real savings of buying quality once. Rant over, pay your money, take your choice.
