Morphy Richards 47560

In my house we had a little bit of a phase of trying out making our own milkshakes. I was shocked to see the price of them rise and rise in the supermarket and buying them from fast food places was really expensive. Combined with looking after my god daughter on a regular basis of a weekend we found that we wanted something to aid in the ... process and after looking around I found that there was the Morphy Richards Meno 47560 Milk Frother. I had heard from my friend that such appliances were available but that was about it and when I first looked I thought the milk frother was in fact a kettle! After looking around to find the best price I made a purchase of my new gadget. Here are my thoughts.
The best price for this appliance was on Amazon and it was about £46.00 when I brought it. This was actually slightly more than I wanted to pay but I had an Amazon voucher so this helped with the cost a little. I have looked online and the appliance will now cost you £51.00 so there has been quite an increase. I have only ever seen this in a large Curry's store when it comes to retailers but Amazon is still the best priced anyway.
When the milk frother arrived I found that it was well packaged and upon opening there was a detailed instruction booklet and a two year manufacturer's guarantee. The milk frother is made from brushed stainless steel and the only other colour on it is black. The Morphy Richards logo is on the front and then there is the just 2 buttons towards the bottom and on the front of the milk frother.
The buttons represent the two options that you get with the milk frother. There is the lower button that will simply froth the milk for your milkshake and then the top button will not only froth but heat the milk up as well. When doing my research for this product I soon saw that not only was it great for milkshakes but it could also froth the milk up for cappuccinos and lattes. There is a 300ml heating and frothing capacity whilst there is room for frothing 500ml of cold milk to make the milkshakes.
The product really is easy to use and whilst I sis have a good read of the instruction booklet provided, with the simple 'one touch' button on the front, all you needed to do was add the milk in at the top of the frother and begin the process. It is powered by 600 watts of power and it looks like a kettle as it sits on a base to allow the power to reach it. When using the milk frother I did not think that it was too noisy. Whilst it did make a noise it really was more of a buzz than anything to loud. There is a button that glows when the milk frother is switched on and then once done it will click off.
The result are good and strangely I have found that I use this more for making a variety of different coffees as opposed to making the milkshakes that it was first brought for, it is very efficient and it is also quick at warming the milk through. I have friends over of a weekend and when making the coffee rather than just offering the instant I can now mix the coffee up. It also keeps the milk warm for up to an hour. The milkshakes, when I do make them are great as it really does froth the milk. The only downside for me is that even though I paid the price, I really don't think that the price tag can be justified, it is good at what it does but it is just one of those other gadgets.
In summary, if you are going to make regular hot and cold drinks with this then yes, it would be good and as it is quick and has a good capacity it really will get the drinks made quick but for me it was one of those fads that I had and I guess I feel compelled to use it as it had a high price tag.
3 out of 5 from me on this one

I bought this coffee maker as a present to my husband who likes to have his coffee waiting for him when he gets up in the morning, so the programmable timer on this filter coffee maker is the key feature that attracted me to it. I purchased mine directly from Morphy Richards' website and the customer service was excellent with free and ... fast delivery, even at christmas. I was also impressed with the choice of colours available for this model; red, black, copper, blue and green.
It's not the smallest coffee machine out there, but for one with a digital programmable timer and large coffee jug (makes approximately 12 cups) it's attractive and compact. It's an important point that although it's not a small machine, the slim and tall shape means that it doesn't take up a lot of room and it doesn't look out of place next to your kettle in your kitchen. Underneath there is also a way to store the power cord so you can have it close to a socket without wires showing if you wish. It has a removable filter making cleaning this machine very easy, without the need for filter papers. On the right hand side there is a water level indicator and the jug is kept warm by the thermostatic hotplate on which it sits.
I'm easily confused by coffee machines but this has been the easiest and machine we've ever owned. You flip the lid open, fill with water using the level indicator, spoon your coffee into the filter, close the lid and press go! The coffee is made quickly, kept warm and doesn't drip.
The only drawback to this machine that I can see is that it isn't very quiet; something to consider if it's going to be programmed to come on at 5am! It hasn't bothered us, but it may bother some people. Read the complete review |

After having a bargain with the Morphy Richards "43772" Pyramid Kettle in metallic red, (as previously reviewed), my partner and I seriously wanted some more stylish kitchen appliances in the same range.
We have a filter coffee maker in the office at work and you really can't beat the smell and taste of freshly ... brewed coffee so we said we would treat ourselves. But just a quick note before I review the product... if you are not aware it is well worthwhile using a website called camelcamelcamel. It basically tracks anything on Amazon so you can see what a products cheapest and highest price is over the last 6 months. Using this site I managed to bag the 47094 coffee maker at a remarkable £27.99 delivered!
Upon receiving the item we opened the box. My initial impression was how large it was. It stands at about 36cm high, about 23cm wide and is 20cm deep, so if you are not too flush with space it might not be for everyone. However the actual build quality and overall look is very impressive, with a combination of stainless steel (red and silver detail as you can see from the picture) and a glossy black plastic lid and a matt black finish on the base of the unit. The jug feels robust enough and again finished with a sturdy black plastic handle. I didn't find it excessively heavy I'd reckon under 5 kilos for unit and jug.
I looked over the instructions to familiarise myself with basic operation and all is very straight forward, some may even be able to operate without reading it seems that user friendly.
I took the unit out and washed the appropriate items first (Jug, filter and filter holder) and set about a few runs with plain water as is standard with any item of this nature. There is enough to make 12 cups and this is easy to gauge as the glass jug has markers to indicate the fill level starting at 4 cups (minimum) and increasing by 2 cups up to the 12 maximum. This is also complimented by the fill gauge on the right-side of the unit which is a floating ball in a thin glass tube. So after filling the jug to the 12 cup level I flipped the lid open and poured the water into the reservoir at the top. This can be a bit tricky if you have the unit on a kitchen surface below a cupboard; I had to pull it to one side for more room so I could pour it in due to the height of the main unit. Overall though this isn't a major concern for me and have now found a suitable location for it.
Once filled, I then plugged the unit into the socket. The flex on mine is about 50cm so again consider your power points and where you would want it if struggling for room. The digital clock on the front is illuminated in a very vivid blue and the fill gauge is also subtly illuminated in blue. Although it is digital the clock face reads as analogue (hour, minute and seconds) it couldn't be more simple to set the time; simply press the hour "HR" button and "MIN" buttons until you have set as desired. To set the first water run through simply press the power button located above the clock face and away it goes. It took about 15 minutes approximately and was very quiet. I did this twice but some may prefer to do a few more?
After finishing the initial set up I went about making a real brew. I spooned the coffee into the filter with the required amount of ground coffee, filled the reservoir and as before pressed the power. It wasn't long before the aroma started to fill the house and I was very pleased with the finished result for taste. The hotplate stays on for about 2 hours and there are little black indicator bars on the clock that come on every 15 minutes so you can gauge how fresh the brew is. Having used a different machine at work that stays on I haven't personally noticed any degradation to taste the longer it is kept warm. I personally would prefer it to stay warm until I'd finished as a full pot is a bit much for two people in one go, (having only used it a few times I have not yet experimented with the reduced measure and aroma settings). But on a plus note it does act as an automatic cut off feature.
Onto one of the main reasons we wanted it... waking up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee.
Setting the timer function was as easy as 1-2-3; press and hold the "PROG" button and set the time as you do for the clock, then press the little "clock" button at the top left of the clock face and let it do its stuff. All I can say is it worked spot on and we awoke to a wonderful smell (although I did add an extra spoon of coffee to give it a bit of extra oomph); it was a perfect way to start a Sunday morning and set about frying bacon.
That's it in a nutshell it is a very simple appliance to use. After having this appliance for several weeks we haven't used it as much as we thought so it is no longer constantly plugged in. This isn't a big deal really, owing to how easy the time is to set and it does look really good along with the kettle. We bought it as a complimentary appliance because the price was right. I would suggest considering very carefully if it's one of those items you've "always fancied". If you are a major coffee head then even at the £40.00 plus mark you would be very happy with the performance.
Will we go for the toaster... only time will tell? Read the complete review |
