Russell Hobbs 14590 Stylis Kettle
Advantages: Stylish, reasonably priced, makes a good cuppa
We seem to be going through a phase at the minute of product breaking, that latest was our kettle, I cannot really moan however as this was brought for us when we moved into our first home 11 years ago. After a bit of research, I wanted something that looked nice, but also boiled quickly and held a lot of water, this is when I spotted the Russell Hobbs Stylis kettle in the Argos catalogue.
The recommended retail price is £49.99 and is available from places like Argos, large department stores or direct from the manufacturer. I loved the look of this kettle but after a bit of research, I managed to buy mine from Amazon for £24.95 with free delivery.
I chose is glass black in colour with a chrome base as this matches my worktop and the décor of my kitchen. The kettle is also available in gloss white or highly polished chrome effect. The handle runs from the top to about three quarters away down the kettle (but it is not re-attached at the bottom). The water window is quite a nice sleek shape and runs down the side of the kettle. One of the things that first attracted me to and what I like about this water window is that it illuminates to quite a nice bright neon blue colour when the water is being boiled.
To use, lift the kettle from the base (I like that you can completely remove the kettle from the base so you do not have to un plug every time you need to fill it up) you then need to 'pop' the lid open on the top of the kettle by pressing the button on the top and then pour the water inside. Close the lid and then replace the kettle onto the base unit (you do not have to worry about placing it any specific position on the base as it will fit any way onto it) and press the switch down at the side.
As the base unit is classed as 360 degrees, it is advertised as suitable for both left and right handed people but as all my family is right handed, I cannot really say whether this works.
I love this kettle as you can also remove the water filter, we use our kettle several times a day so can get a build up of lime scale sometimes, and this ensures none of the little bits end up in my tea.
The kettle can hold up to 1.7 litres of water which means we can comfortably get 5 cups of tea from one boil, it also has boils very quickly.
It comes with the with a manufacturers one year guarantee but as it is made by Russell Hobbs, I am hoping it will last a lot longer than this as they are experts in making small appliances as the company has been trading for 60 years.
We have had ours a couple of months now and I have not experienced any problems, the only downside for me is that to clean the exterior you need to 'buff' afterwards otherwise you can see the water marks but this is the case with most 'gloss effect' products.
Overall, I would recommend this kettle and give 5 out of 5 stars. It looks really stylish and modern on my worktop, but more importantly, boils quickly so I can make that perfect cup of tea.
Thanks for reading.
