Carte Noire Instant
Advantages: Great velvety texture and a rich creamy flavour
Disadvantages: can leave a bitter taste in your mouth
I am a bit of a coffee addict and choose most of purchases of coffee on price. I was previously buying the Tesco gold label coffee which all of a sudden changed to a rancid bitter flavour which subsequently put me off buying it.
On my next trip to Tesco, I picked up some Douwe Egberts coffee which was on offer for £3.20 for a large jar. I then remembered I had run out of Carte Noire coffee which I now keep in for when visitors come to the house. I want them to enjoy their coffee here so I buy a good tasting brand.
Sitting on the aisle was Carte Noire on offer for an excellent price of £3. My friend was with me who works in Tesco and got me her 10% discount on my shopping so in theory I paid just £2.70. I was really happy and got home and put the kettle on.
My friend came back with me so it was the perfect opportunity to get the 'visitors' coffee out and enjoy a hot cup of great quality coffee in the sunshine.
I used milk for my friend and I had coffee mate as I prefer the creamy taste that coffee mate has. I used 1 heaped teaspoon in the mugs and added the water. As I was drinking mine, I thought it was slightly too strong. Carte Noire is a much stronger coffee than I was used to drinking daily, So I had forgotten to not add as much with Carte Noire.
On our second cup, I added a flat teaspoon which made it taste much less harsh and not too much of an after taste in your mouth. I don't like to have a lingering coffee taste on my tongue as it does start to taste bitter. I usually make sure I have something I can take the taste away with afterwards like a biscuit or a glass of orange juice.
The flavour of this coffee is of premium quality. The flavour is creamy, deep and fresh giving me the feeling of drinking a coffee in a coffee shop. The coffee is freezer dried and melts into to water very quickly without leaving any residue on the sides of the mug. The smell alone is what always draws me in to Carte Noire. Upon opening the lid for the first time, the smell is immense to your nostrils. The creamy coffee flavour instantly tantalises your taste buds into wanting a coffee.
I bought my dad a coffee machine last Christmas and I popped into Home Bargains last week and picked up a bag of carte noire coffee for a peculator coffee machine. It was £2.49 for 250g of coffee. I popped over to my dads house to bring it and we tried the coffee for the first time. I had never tried Carte Noire coffee for a coffee machine before so it was a new experience for both of us.
This coffee was even better than the freezer dried instant coffee. You can purchase the ground coffee for £3.79 in Tesco, but it might be worth checking a home bargains store near you first. (september 2012). These ground coffee bags can be used for a peculator coffee machine and it also works for a cafetiere which is a glass jug with a plunger.
I would suggest this coffee for either morning wake up drinks and after dinner coffee. I prefer to leave this coffee for when friends visit because of the cost and buy myself a lower cost coffee to drink through the day.
Since I started buying Carte Noire for guests, They have always commented on how lovely the coffee is and how rich and creamy the flavour is. If you like your coffee like this too, it's definitely a coffee to test out for yourselves. I often wait for it to be on offer before purchasing it as it's full price is a bit expensive for my budget but definitely is worth the money.
I give it 5/5 stars for flavour, aroma and the quality.
Thanks for reading my review
