Advantages: Rich, velvety, strong good tasting coffee!!
Disadvantages: I drink to much of it!!
Yes I know yet another review on Coffee and this Carte Noire as well being a very popular brand. Just wanted to put my view on it as well!!
Ever since I was expecting my youngest son ( being over 22 years ago, where has the time gone!!) I haven't been able to drink tea at all. Maybe on the very odd occasion a herbal tea or green tea, but nothing that had to have milk added. So coffee has been my only hot drink for many years as I'm not a hot chocolate drinker either.
I'm very fussy when it comes to coffee, as I would rather not have a cup than drink any old brand. My real favourite coffee is of course the real stuff, where the beans have has just been ground and put through a filter to give a real coffee taste, but time does not always allow this ( unless you have an Aerobie Aeropress see my review!). Sometimes though I just want a quick instant coffee when I'm on the go and this is the one for me.
Coming in a square glass black jar it certainly looks good before you have even opened it, as soon as you have broken the seal on the top the smell of the strong coffee comes wafting out. Putting 2 teaspoons into a reasonable size mug, I usually add a small amount of skimmed milk then pour on my hot water.
The smell from this mug is enough to wake up anyone no matter how tired your feeling and when it comes to the taste, there is no other comparision to the other jars of coffee that are about as far as I'm concerned. This coffee has a really distinct taste, now I think you have to like the taste of a rich strong coffee to enjoy this one. It has a very strong bite to it ( almost nutty) and leaves a strong taste of coffee in your mouth for some time after, a bit like if you have a Starbucks or Costa coffee that is expresso.
I understand that this coffee is made from the Arabica bean which gives it it's lovely rich velvety taste, I do think that if you gave this coffee to a friend they would think that you had gone through all the motions of making it through some sort of machine as it tastes that good. Now anything that tastes good isn't normally cheap, but I find this to be a very good price compared to a lot of the others brands on the shelfs. I usually buy mine in the refill packs ( nothing to do with being Eco friendly although I do try!!) as it works out a lot cheaper. I only popped one into my basket yesterday in Tesco's and it seems that at the moment you can get a refill of Carte Noire for £3.00 for 150g, where a jar of 100g will set you back £3.58. Also these refills are great as you just tear it along the top and it pops open with a resealable top.
So if you like good tasting strong coffee then this is the one I would recommend!!
Summary: If you like a good tasting coffee then try this!!!
