Douwe Egberts Pure Gold
Advantages: creamy, rich, smooth, lovely aroma, dissolves easily, stays fresh for longer
Disadvantages: bit expensive but worth it!
Im not a big coffee drinker, im more of a tea person, but every so often I fancy a good cuppa coffee. I normally go for quite expensive brands but I only buy them when they are on offer, recently at tesco the big jar of this was half price at only £3.29 rather than £6.59 so I decided to give it a go, having never tried Douwe Egberts before.
The coffee comes in a glass jar with an appealing brown and gold Douwe Egberts logo and design on the front. The lid is also glass, which has a plastic suction thing around the outside so you have to pull the lid off completely to get inside. To begin with this is a bit difficult but once you've used it a few times the suction seems to loosen a bit and its easier to get into. I much prefer this to the plastic screw off lids you can get, it seems to keep my coffee fresh for longer - which is perfect as I dont drink it often so I need my coffee to stay fresh for a long time.
The coffee itself is probably the best I have ever tasted. I used to love the Nescafe Alta Rica brand but now I am fully converted to Douwe Egberts and I dont think I will ever go back, I may even buy it for full price when I run out!
The granuales seems to disolve alot easier than other coffees do, I like mine quite milky so I always find that most coffees struggle to disolve as I add quite alot of milk so when I add the water the whole mixture is not as hot as most peoples coffee. Since you are meant to add your milk first so as not to burn your coffee (giving it a horrible burnt aftertaste) I find I am normally stirring vigorously trying to get my coffee granuales to dissolve in the water and milk. This isnt the case with this one however, it seems to dissolve without hardly any stirring. The aroma from the coffee is amazing too, it smells so rich I just cant get enough of it.
The taste is definitely one of the best coffees I have ever tasted, even with only a splash of milk the taste is so smooth and rich. I normally have to add a big sugar to my coffees to be able to enjoy it but I can drink this one without sugar which is a first for me! It is a very rich, smooth and creamy tasting coffee regardless of how much milk you add to it, I find I dont have to add as much milk as I normally would to enjoy it either. Despite its smooth creamyness it is still a good strong and rich coffee, not weak with a horrible bitter aftertaste like alot of the cheaper brands you can buy.
Overall I would definitely recommend this coffee to everyone - it is the best I have ever tasted. It has a lovely rich aroma and tastes smooth and creamy whilst still being strong. There is no horrible bitter aftertaste and it dissolves easily in hot water and milk. It is a bit pricey normally but I would say it is definitely worth the pennies, but if your not convinced on spending so much on coffee then wait until it is on offer and give it a go - you wont be disappointed I promise!
Summary: the best tasting coffee!
